I am contemplating sanding down the Vette's paint to the primer and then shooting it with 4/4 of metallic red and clear. Something like the 50th Anniversary model.

I know it sounds bad- "Ugh.. he's going to do what??? Repain it??? And its not going to be the stock color???"

Maybe I have been watching too much "American Chopper", but I have seen some really pretty shades of red.

The black has been fun for the last 7 years since it was painted, but seeing the other problems like paint chips, urethane shrinkage, stress cracks. and the like have taken their toll.... yeah, its time.

Yes, I know I have other things to do before I paint it again. Oh, like the window regulators, a few bushings... but I may just knock it all out at the same time or around the same time.

The black interior will stay though!

Any ideas or advice

I have the 25th Anniv. Edition and plan on getting a 50th in a year or two. I really love the color. DO IT!... IMO.

you should see my garage rite now the whole floor is red because I have been sanding for two days straight now...it will be ready for primer in the next couple...my suggestion is dark blue metallic like the new lemans blue metalic on the limited edition zo6's that is really nice that is what I am doing to mine.

I strongly feel that the vehicle is yours and you should do what you want to it while it is yours.
While I would have a difficult time changing a rare combo or numbers matching vette, a common or modified one is fair game for any color in the paint booth.

Post pics of your final color choice!
You are actually pretty lucky in that a black interior will 'go' with nearly any exterior color choice.
