Ok folks. Great place you have here for just about everything corvette, but if you don't want to hear me whining about everything that needs attention on my new ride, I need a nudge in the right direction. How about some recommendations for a decent repair manual, one with lots of pictures. I've been a mechanic (everything but cars) for twenty five years and appreciate having the "instructions" when digging in deep. I owe it to the car...I owe it to myself (I owe it to my wife's half of our joint checking account as well). I realize that there's no substitute for experience and will still be checking in now and again. The wealth of knowledge I've gained already just reading through old threads has been great. Help stamp out stupid questions in your lifetime and let me know your favorite reference book for keeping America's greatest sports car on the road. Thanks! :lou

:w Mike,

There really aren't any Stupid or Dumb questions when it comes to serious inquiry's about how or what to do to our Cars ;)

I highly recommend the GM Shop Manual for your 1981 (ST-346-81) and an Assembly Manual. The Shop Manual can answer most question, via their Diagnostic and Specification Sections and the Assembly Manual provides detail of parts and components.

Both can be found on Ebay, the manual usually brings around $40 ~ $75 depending upon the frenzy, and the Assembly Manual for about $20 ~ $24 or so.

Here are two Ebay sites for 1981 Corvette Stuff:
1981 Corvette
and
81 Corvette
