Hello All,

My C5 fuel gauge has been acting up. In February the dealer replaced both fuel sending units. The fuel gauge worked fine after than until last month when the gauges acted up and the dealer had to again replace the drivers side unit. Well, all was well until yesterday when the gauges did the same thing.

Is the dealer missing something here? I just cant see getting 3 defective units. Any advise on what else to look for.

Any info is appreciated before it visits the dealer again this week.

Thanks.

Search on "fuel gauge" for lots of posts on C5 forum

I searched, using your words and found this quickly.

May be your best/quickest anwer.

It's a known issue, virtually all C5's will show the problem.
The failure will correct itself (usually) after several restarts. Many people have had sending units replaced only to have the problem return at a later date.
I do not know, nor do I know if anyone knows exactly what is wrong with the sending units, just that you likely will see the problem sometime.

Post the dealers response. My gauge always fixed itself before I got a chance to get to the dealer.

Thanks for the info. The gauge is currently working and I plan on taking it in to the dealer if it acts up again while the warranty is still in effect.

I've been having trouble with mine too. Under 1/4 tank, the gauge reads completely random. The parts are in and it's going to Thorobred in Chandler for a brand new tank and sensor next week. Luckily, it's under warantee.

HEY AZMike,
What made them decide on replacing the fuel tank? My vehicle is going to Courtesy in Phoenix next week.

Not sure exacly why they decided on replacing the tank - the service advisor said they called up GM and decided that was the best thing to do.

I'm also having the Active handling problem - they applied the update to the computer, but I still get the 'service active handling' error avery 3 or 4 days. Hopefully they'll get it right this time.

I've also had them hunting down a door rattle I have, but I don't seem to be making any progress in that area. I guess I'll just have to turn up the volume.

At least the car comes back from Thorobred better than I bring it in. Avoid Chapman in Tempe - they don't seem to know what they're doing at all. I've never gotten anything actually fixed by them.

AZMike & VictorJK.... Have either of you had any experience with Brown & Brown on Main in Mesa. This is where I bought my '03 AE and was planning on taking it back to them when the need came up.
Thorobred is closer but I became dissatisfied with them when I was trying to buy an '03 and their parts department jerked me around on everyday supplies they should have had in stock. Any input would be appreciated.

HELLO Kemosabe,
The only Chevrolet dealer that I have dealt with is Courtesy in Phoenix. So far the service has been good and the vette has been in quite a few times in the past year.
