My Vette is 8 years old now and both of the PKE key fob batteries bit the dust. I'm having a hard time finding a replacement CR2450 battery that fits correctly. The top of the original battery has a slight depression around the top (+) edge. The replacements I've found are completely flat across the top.

Original battery:

Here's the fob with the original battery installed:

As you can see in the picture, there are 2 "clips" that hold the battery in place (by the word "CELL" and the "YO" in Sanyo). The replacements I've tried will not "click" under the 2 clips. Short of getting out the dremel tool, does ony one have any suggestions for tracking down this non-standard CR2450 battery? Did GM make changes to this design during 1993-1996?

I've tried the Chevy dealer and their replacement battery was a Maxell that did not fit properly.

Thanks,
Jim

Same thing on mine but if you hook the battery into the bottom hook (as shown in the picture) first and then press into the top hook it will work. At least it does in mine.

Battery industry changed the standard. They consolidated a bunch of batteries into a single series and didn't think that lip would be a big difference.

I have a new battery and agree with the above about sliding the top on while the battery is seated against one lip.

Worked that way for me also!

I don’t know off the top of my head what brand of battery I have in both of my fobs, but I replace them both at the same time without any fit problems.

I have purchased my batteries from Batteries Plus, they have store locations listed on their website. When replacing the batteries, I take the fobs with me, so far-so good.

I busted the "sprung" clip on my spare fob with the newer, thicker batteries. I'd suggest trying to track down a Sanyo battery, as they seem to be the only ones with the correct fit. Good luck.
