89 C4: Has anyone tried replacing the Bose stereo system with an aftermarket receiver?

I was thinking of pulling all four Bose speaker boxes out, the factory radio out and replacing them with a nice receiver with good sound and four new speakers. I heard that the factory radio has dimmer controls that affect the dash and heater panel lights. The local advice is to fix the Bose and live with its quirks. Is this good advice?

Thanks,
Radar

Bose...

Radar, a lot of us have done that, and there are quite a few threads already surrounding this subject. Try our Search feature for questions and answers regarding Bose. ;)

Man, it all depends what kind of sound you're looking for. A few years ago, I had a really nice system in my other Vette. After I sold it, I just never got back into the stereo side of it......I actually like my BOSE system I have now, but the sound from my other system was awesome :)
