Can I get some help from someone on how to replace my fogged up, fog lights in my 86 vert please? I can't figure it out.
Thanks, Michael

I've heard you have to remove the bumper:(

Froggy is correct. This from an '87 manual (same) and I quote:

To replace fog LPS/front park/turn signal light housing, it will be necessary to remove the front bumper facia as outlined in Section 2B, Bumpers. Or should that be Bummers? :(

Ok, just throwing out ideas here. On my '96, there are small flaps cut in the underside of the bumper, about 3 inches square. they are basically cut on three sides, with the uncut side toward the front of the car. I've not actually taken them down to look, but they say they are for changing the fog lamps. What about cutting flaps in the under side of your bumper?Again, I don't know if this is actually possible on your '87, just an idea. Might be easier than removing the entire bumper.

Fog Lights

To change the bulbs, the bumper does not have to be removed. On my '85 the bulbs are accessable under the hood on each side of the rad. A pain in the butt because there is not much room!!! If you can SQUEEZE your hand in there it's just a twist and the bulbs pull out.

Now to replace the actual fog lamp housing, yes you must remove the front facia. :mad

You're right, he didn't specify lenses or bulbs, but I also assumed the poster meant the lenses. Hence the response that you must remove the front bumper cover to access the lenses. ;)

MD u need to loosin up the front bumper assy and pull it away from the impack unit to get the fog light out. im doing it to my 87 now. millions of screws to remove. not much fun.
later, bodyman

I replaced the "Fog Lamps"n my 86' without removing the bumper, just look under the hood on either side of the front frame extension and you will see the bulb holders, just twist the tab and carefully wiggle the assembly out of the hole.

I think he meant the lenses, but it's really not clear. Of course the bulbs can be changed without removing the bumper - as you rightly pointed out.:)

I just went back and read the first post in this thread, if you mean the lenses are fogged up - are they fogged up on the outside or the inside?
If they are only fogged up on the outside then all you need to do is polish them. If they are really bad you will need to first wet sand them. I did mine this way and they looked like new, really sparkled. First wet sand with 600 grit, then 1000 grit, then 1500 grit, then finally with 2000 grit wet or dry sandpaper. Keep the sandpaper wet by dipping in clean water and sand. Change the water between grits. After sanding the lenses will have a slightly frosted look, now get some good hand polishing compound for paint and polish the lenses by hand until they are crystal clear. It's not as much work as it sounds, and if they are only fogged on the outside then you can skip all the sanding and go right for the polishing compound. I would not use any power polishing equipment ojn these lenses because they are made from a very soft plastic that can melt easily with a powered polishing machine.
If they are fogged on the inside then you can use the same process, but if I recall the lens is sealed to the back part of the light capsule and I don't think you can get them apart without causing permanant damage to the assembly. The assembly is supposed to be sealed anyway to keep out any moisture that would cause the units to fog on the inside. You might want to check to see if a crack has developed in the assembly that is letting moisture in.

This is what CW is talking about...
