REPLACING OPTI AND WATER PUMP ON 92

I just tried bending the pins but accidentally bent them a little too much and now I don't think they are going into the harness correctly.:bash I'm getting worried that by the time I get the pins in the right place I might break one and it appears that piece on the opti with the pins doesn't come off? Since its so dark out now, I'll have to mess around with it in the morning. I'll let you know how I make out. I hope to be cruisin by tomorrow, assuming the pins are the problem.:Steer
Don't need much,just a itty bitty bit!!:thumb

Still no luck. I tried bending the pins, but I think I bent a little too much and can't seem to get them back in the right place. By doing so, I think I messed up the harness that the clips into the opti. I tried calling all the local chevy dealers and was given a part number for the harness (12106522), however was told it was discontinued. A couple of the prongs in the harness are pushed way up into the harness from me trying to "force" it onto the opti. As a side note, the car did attempt to start and ran for maybe 30 seconds, but when I gave it the gas it stalled. Not sure if I got a messed up opti, or if I caused my own damage here. Either way, when I initially hooked up the harness, the car would not start. Anyone know where I can get a new one of these harnesses? Thanks. :confused

I usually repair them myself,You can get the little metal ends at most part stores!!Have you tried to push them back with a small screwdriver from the back side after plugged back in??;shrug:upthumbs

Tried that, but none of the parts stores had those ends. So, I bought a new harness from Casper electronics for $41 with shipping ( just got it today). One end of the harness was different but I was able to plug the wires into my harness with no problem. Anyway, I put the harness on and start the car. Low and behold, it starts with the flick of the key and runs for maybe 30 seconds. At first, I thought I was all set, but as soon as I tapped the gas pedal, it stalled right out. Any thoughts as to what this might be. I tried messing with the pins on the optispark to get a better connection, but that doesn't seem to work and I'm afraid if I keep bending them I might break them..The car won't attempt to start now and smells flooded.
Keep in mind, this car did start up and run prior to me installing the new opti-spark, but it did skip like a pig. Any ideas?? Thanks guys.:beer

Oh, and if anyone thinks I may have bought a bum opti, is there any way I can test to see if it is good while on the car (ohm meter)?? Thanks.

I FOUND MY PROBLEM!!!!!
Went out there today and ripped the water pump back out with intentions of sending back the opti I bought. Then I noticed that the coil wire has a slight tear in it. Turns out it must have got caught slightly under the water pump when I had tightened it down.:bash That would explain the starting and sudden stalling. Well to test that theory, I ripped the coil wire off my truck and put it on the vette to see if she started, and low and behold she did and stayed running!!! Now I just gotta button it down and take her for a cruise to see if I still have any skips..If not then I solved my problem with the opti, if not, then I'm just getting started!! Either way, my two cents when doing this job is to put the coil wire on the opti and to not connect it to the coil until the pump is already on!:beer
