Any hints on how to replace this seal? The replacment one I have is going to require some stretching during the installation; I plan on starting with the corners and letting them each set-up before moving on....does this sound like the way to go. or is there a proven method.

Thanks,

Lanny,

Did you buy a GM strip or did you get an aftermarket? Sorry, I can't help you with the "how to" but I was planning on replacing mine this fall and was wondering if the aftermarkets fit was good and where you got it. Thanks, Tim:beer

Tim,
The seal came from Corvette Americal...at least that is what the bag had on it. Actually got the seal off of ebay from one of the Corvette parts stores that sells there...not Ecklers or Mid America....nothing like that. I am still scratching my head trying to figure out just how this thing fits. The old one was not glued in except at one place, along the right side vertical.

Still waiting for some hints as to just how this thing installs.

If I remember correctly, you don't need to glue it in. Take all the plastic trim off and remove window lifts...place the gasket loose and reattach the lifts...The gasket fits over the lip/channel.

Jon is right, no gluing required, just pull off the old one and press on the new one. There is no trick to it, although if you want some advice, press in the corners first and then slowly work around doing the curves. You'll have to unclip the gas supports and either have a friend hold up the glass or use a 2X4.

Thanks for the hints; have to take another look at this. I can see that very little glue was used..completely opposite of my '81...lots of glue. I will remove the trim and then may be I can see how this presses in.

GOT IT?

Seems that the old seal had completely separated between the soft and hard rubber. I thought the hard rubber was part of the trim..which is why I was so confused as to how the new seal went on. But took a really good look at the old and the new seals and...bing....on went the light bulb!!!

But what is the googie tan goop? It is under the hard rubber part, and also on top of it in places. I have wiped it all off...what is this stuff supposed to be for?

Thanks again,
