Gents, My left window motor went out tonight. I have been meaning to replace the outer rubber seals but alas some water got into the inside and no more motor. ( I checked the switch 1st, and found that by swaping the right and the left the left (both) switches are fine, hence the motor).

Ok,so I remove the out pannel, the tin inside plate that holds the door handle etc, but I can not thus far see how I can remove the entire window assy, that being the motor, window and associated metal operating parts. I did remove the larger bolts (2 top and 2 bottom). I simply cannot see how I can ever remove the parts that hold the window, motor and gear that moves the window up and down. I suppose this unit has to come out to remove and replace the motor?
Anyone been down the road? Don't have a shop manual.. in the blind here, but don't want to give up and take it to the chevy house, at least not yet.
I see where I can get the complete assy at mid america and other supply houses.

Any insight would be appreciated.

PS: Any further ideas on how to get the windo in the up position to await the parts coming?

That is a nice link that 87BlackRoxi posted. I wish I had that when I did my drivers side. My driver side always went slower than my passenger side but one day the window would not go up all the way and just chatter. I figured the ribbon on the regulator (old style) must have broken. Went to NAPA to try and get a new style regulator to replace it but it was pretty expensive compared to the $7.00 for a ribbon so I opted for that. Since I was saving so much money I also sprung another $30.00 for a new motor thinking it would be faster and one less thing to wear out again and change later. Put it all back together and it was just as slow as before. That leads me to think the passenger side might already have the upgraded regulator. I used my Hayes manual and took my time and it wasn't too difficult. Had to drill the old motor off (pop riveted) and a couple places on the regulator to change the tape and re-rivet but not difficult. Took me about 3 hours total because I took my time as I did not want to break anything. Just a tip: use a bunch of clear sandwich bags for all the different parts/screws and label them where they go and which step they came off. Then as you put it all back together just reverse the process. Last bag filled - first one used and you wont end up with extra parts. I didn't even tear the vapor barrier. I was pretty happy too as a 21 year old car and aged plastic can be brittle. Your year may already have the new regulator but I think you can get away with just changing the motor but it will probably require pulling the whole regulator assy out and drilling off the motor. Good luck and let us know how you made out. Regards Mike
