Does anyone know how much fuel is remaining when the dash icon says "Reserve" Wasn't paying attention this am and had passed the last gas station some 6 miles when my "reserve" light came on.

You should have around 2 gallons left assuming the fuel gauge sending unit is working properly, the float is not soaked with fuel and the gauge itself is working right.

Page thru the gas mileage readouts to see how many miles remain for the gas in the tank. But that value is an approximation based on the average miles per gallon assuming you had reset all of the values when you last filled the tank.

when it starts bucking you'll know your almost out!! but don't ask me how i know!! and how i found out my gas gauge was wrong and still showing 1/4 tanks left? well new sending unit and fuel pump ago and alls well now.

Try not to let it get low to oftenLINK

About 2 gallons, but the gauge is notoriously inaccurate. Once the reserve light comes on, get to a station.

It actually stands for "reserve a bus seat immediately" because you're "way low on gas cougar" :)

Len:w

2 gallons is about right but adding in the pucker factor and it's even lower.

I made myself a promise this morning to keep all the cars at least half full all the time.

I remember a 75 coupe I had. I only had the car about week and was on the freeway in the middle of the night 30 miles from Burn Scrotum, New Mexico and the car quit running. Gauge showed a half tank. Don't ever trust old gauges.

My float or something must be stuck...I had three bars left on the digital readout and went to fill up and it only took 13.8 gallons, not that I am complaining but I thought it would take a lot more. ;shrug

After the "Reserve" light comes the "Check Gauges" lamp. That's when you're in trouble with six miles to go. :W

....and I don't wanna know. Allowing the fuel to get that low is not a good thing :nono for the fuel pump. Think about it--you have an '87 Vette--do the math. God only knows what's being stirred up in there by the time the 'Reserve' or 'Check Gauges' lights start flashing.
Same goes for your '06.
2 gallons sounds right. Maybe. I wouldn't wanna have to depend on that.

That in a way doesn't make sense to me...if anything was in the bottom wouldn't it get stirred up when you fill up the car? The fuel comes out of that nozzle pretty fast. I would think that would stir up something and u then driving have a better chance of picking it up no? I think the only danger you have of letting it run low is damaging the fuel pump that uses fuel to keep it cool.
