Resetting Proportioning Valve

Bill- When I swapped out all four calipers on our '81 Corvette, I had the same problem. I asked a good friend, who restores Corvettes, and he said, "just take it out and jam on the brakes to the point of lock-up, and it will adjust itself." It sounded crazy, but I'll be damned, it worked! I don't know if it will work on your '85, but it's worth a try.

Did you jam on the brakes going forward or were you going backwards???

C4 Brake help

Bill- I drove to a parking lot where it was safe to do. I accelerated to about 25 mph going forward, and jammed on the brakes to the point of lock-up, as you would do in a panic stop. The proportioning valve adjusted itself, and we never had any trouble after that. Good luck, and I hope this solves your problem.

C4 Brakes

You might want to try to bleed off some fluid from the rear calipers, that might be just enough to release the proportioning valve and restore the brake balance you need. Have someone sit in the car and push on the pedal, then bleed the passenger side first, and go to the drivers side next.
