Restoration of the '69 L-88 starts Feb.23rd

Tell him they report bad news because it's the unusual. Good news is the norm and therefore not interesting enough to keep viewers watching. A newscast won't report that "Everything at Taft Elementary School went fine today" because that wouldn't be interesting.

There's a movie called "Bowling for Columbine" by Michael Moore that's makes some interesting observations about sansationalistic newscasts and the differences they have in the U.S. versus Canada.

I taped the rebroadcast this morning. They body is now completely stripped (they talked about media blasting it with walnut shells, but didn't show much), and one of the guys walked through the body showing where a few spots had filler, pointed out the bonding strips, and were some repair was done earlier on one of the floor pans that had apparently been caused by a blown clutch.

The funny part was that he first showed that earlier repair and said something about having to re-do the work to make it "correct", then when he showed the rear tail-light panel bonding strip a minute later he again said the owner wanted to "make it better than original", so they would be re-working that seam over again.

Overall the body appeared to be in great shape. They didn't show any significant body damage/repair that I recall. Once again, it looks like they are going to over-restore and customize a really straight, original L88. :(

"Once again, it looks like they are going to over-restore and customize .................."

That's pretty well been the mentality on the show and the reason I don't care for it. "Restification" is fine for those that enjoy the hobby in that manner, but to constantly mix it in with "correct, original and restored" comments to try and add credibility to incorrect proceedures is just too over the top for my tastes.

Didn't see DCG yet but just received the catalogue for the upcoming Classic Car Auction in Toronto, April 4,5,6. Inside, up for bids is a '69, L88 Roadster, Red, White top looks like black interior, M-22, 2-tops, tank sticker, extensively restored, Bloomington Gold, photo documented resto. etc. What are the odds this is the same car?? Only 116 made. Legendary is located also in the Toronto area. I'm going to get on their web site and try to find out more.

rbyrne, I have a felling that it is a different car. There was a red 69 roadster that was being offered on ebay that fits the description of the car you mentioned a while back and I have a feeling that it is the same car. Of course if there is a picture of the car that can be posted we will know for sure.

Thanks 67. That will be a big help. I may have to do something I haven't done in a long time....actually touch the VCR and see if I can make it work. :L

OK so who seen it this week? that the way I thought it was correct to repair fiberglass Not as I was ranting about on the other forum about from the cars and parts corvette magazine suggesting we use EDIT * spakel tapeEDIT *

I just got an off forum emails asking me to correct the term spackel tape to "state of the art fiberglass reinfourced structual tape" The person exspained I left out the most important part of the repair and I am leading people to belive it is the old style paper style tape.

The person was correct and I stand corrected but I still feel its not the correct way to repair fiberglass.

I was watching "American Shooter" on OLN. Seems nowadays it's more exciting watching a 50 cal machine gun or Civil War cannon being shot than a car being restored. Hey, wonder what MY German mg would do to a Corvette???!!!!!?????? OH, to only wish I had the guts to shoot mine to pieces.....................

Somebody else agreed with you and wrote a letter to the editor in the recent issue. I think the editor replied that they stand by the method in the article!:eyerole

I had read the reply did you read the recent mag?

As quoted from the article
"Prescription for success"

The stripe down the center of the hood was a peek at what would come in 1965 when the big block cars all received a constrasting stripe on their special domed hoods

Un Quote

The stripe was not used untill the 1967 cars There are much more mistakes in the mag but as my mom allways said if you have nothing good to say then dont say anything .I will not renuw after this subcription is done I re newed at corvette of carlilse and was excited about it going to a monthly magazine but know I just got to wait it out and stop complaining

Just say DCG today and I have to say that I am dissapointed with what they are doing to the motor. They put in a roller cam different carb stroker crank etc. etc. He is taking away the qualities that make an L88 an L88. I understand that it is his right to do this but I disagree with ruining such a rare piece of Corvette history. BTW I am hearing that the car is now for sale at Legendary Motorcar.

SBR, I've just gotten to the point that I can't bare to watch it anymore. They seem to destroy the originality and character of everything they restore on that show. The 58 was gruesome, the Shelby worse, and now this.

On the 58 they went to the trouble to remove the chassis, but sand blasted and painted it with no suspension disassembly. Then they were very proud of the fact that they gel coated the entire body and of course no Corvette ever got gel coat from the factory. I don't think it has any place except on boats and playground equipment, not to mention swimming pool slides.

These guys aren't restoring, they're taking original cars and building hot rods.
