All,
I've been glued to the NCM web site to see the cars being recovered from the sink hole and have read that GM has committed to restoring all these classics back to original condition which I applaud General Motors.

Maybe this should have been a survey but didn't know how to do that..

I hope they don't restore them immediately because I personally think that they should keep them like they are for a while to give us all a chance to get to Bowling Green to see them in person.

I know they don't look that good right now but like they say "they're only original once"

Anyone else have the same hopes??

Jim

Nope, get em restored...

They are displaying them from now until sometime in August. If you have been to the Museum before they are in the last area right before you enter the store. I understand they are displayed in the order they were recovered with the Blue Devil being first. That room is the only large area that doesn't have a webcam for those of us not close to BG to look at them. Wish hey would add camera there.
My Club will be making their yearly trip to the NCM second week in April and will be taking lots of pictures. BTW, noticed today cranes are gone but last I knew the 1.5 millionth, the Mallet and the ZR-1 Spyder concept are still in the hole. Last I saw recovered was the PPG Pace car at 4:23pm BG time. Are they still down there? Or did I miss a Huge recovery??

I agree a camera there would be a nice touch. But then I'm sure that my not be a priority at this point.

I'll be there for the Bash and will check them out. I see the PPG Pace Car came out also. It looks a lot worse than the Ruby.

I, for one, would like to see the cars left as they are for awhile. In a way, these cars have become a symbol of just how vulnerable all of us are to having a similar fate befall any of our own cars. Although no one was injured in this event, to view them in their present state would be somewhat akin to seeing parts of the "Titanic" on display. On the other hand, to restore these vehicles to their former glory would be a testament to the skill and determination of everyone involved in the project. Almost like watching the World Trade Center rise from the ashes to stand proudly again on America's skyline.

Especially after watching the progress on the Skydome webcams earlier in the week, I would really like to see these cars in person. I feel a road trip coming soon.

When they brought out the 84 PPG I noticed I couldn't see the zr-1 spyder that is down there. It was on it's side (drivers side up) and was pretty much buried cept for a portion of the back quarter panel and maybe a small part of the door. Anyone know if they got it out?? Have seen no mention of it being recovered and definitely no pictures of it. But you don't see the quarter panel now.
Below is picture of where it was located.

What I've read on the NCM website states that there are three Corvettes still below ground, one of them being the Spyder. I'm thinking that what we could see of the car before became obscured by dirt from the excavation of the PPG car.

That is what I was thinking but was just double checking.
