Does any one know of a good shop to have Knock Off rims restored?

You might find sources for knock-off wheel restoration from several places such as the NCRS forum, the NCRS Driveline or from speaking with Vette restoration shops. The shops should have sources they can recommend or possibly they would do them. Mail-Order suppliers such as Paragon may also know of sources.

I know there used to be a fellow in the mid-West who did them. I remember his first name was Dave but I can't recall his last name. I bought the paint from him when I did ours but that was over fifteen years ago. They can be done by yourself but it's a lot of work and I recall thinking at the time I was doing them telling myself that I would never do them again. :D

Addendum: Just spoke to a friend of mine who remembers Dave and he also recalled his last name as Cosner. I couldn't find the ad he used to run in the NCRS Restorer but someone else might have contact information.

Thanks for the input, it has helped to focus the search. I will let you know how the search goes and the results of the restoration (which, at the rate that I can get to things, will be forever...)

If your going to invest in a restoration of the rims, make sure they are original rims first. I have seen reproduction sets go for as little as 1300.00 at corvettes of carlilse last year including nuts, hammer, spinner, cones, every thing.I have also seen at the same show a complete reproduction decent driver quaility set go used for as high as 700.00,so if you do the math I dont think you could get yours restored for under 600.00. if they are the real deal factory correct ones for sure have them restored, other wise it may be smarter to buy new.Good luck to you on your search

Thanks for the input. I really like your quote of some one else took it apart. Hence the name Project 64. That quote is painfully true...

While on the subject of rims, Does anyone know if the black paint on the repro knock offs is removeable? I would like my 64 to have the non-painted pre 65 look, but don't know how to go about removing it.

Thanks,
64 Mike
