What do you guys think of Richmond gears? Looking to d omy 4:10 swap and I've heard I sould only do th swap with Dana gears what do you guys think.

My personal opinion

Is that Richmond street gears are poor quality.

I went through two sets of Richmonds in my 1997 Camaro before going with GM gears. Each set of Richmond gears I used broke a tooth in almost the exact same way. You cannot tell by looking which broken tooth came from which ring gear it was so similar. Also they were noisier and harder to set up than the GM (Motive Brand).

Also, the warranty they claim is BS. I tried to get them to give me another set when the second set broke and they said that I have to pay to ship them back to them, then THIER lab would examine them and if they deemed the failure was a flaw in the manufacturing, the would send me another set. If they detemined the gears had no flaws, I would have to pay for the lab service (around $500).

Since I figured there was no way THIER lab would find a problem with THIER gears, I decided to go with Motive brand. Motive makes the gears for GM. They are excellent quality and very precision cut, and are similarly priced ($189 from Summit for a Camaro). They set up easily (compared to the Richmonds) and were quiet, and have survived far more abuse than the Richmonds. I currently have a 500HP Big Block in the car and they are still fine. With the Richmonds I was running a Hot-Cammed LT-1 in the car and they broke both times going to 2nd on the STREET, not at the track.

I hope you learn from my expense and misfortune and go with Motive, Dana, or another quality Gear, but stay away from Richmond. (maybe thier race gears are good.. don't know, but thier street gears are much too brittle)

I am assuming it is for a Dana 44 right?

if so, get the Dana Super 44 Gears from a Dodge dealer. They use those in Vipers, I heard they work the best

I ran a set of Richnmond street gears in my drag race Nova (8.5" 10 bolt). Raced every weekend, sometimes twice, for 8 years with no problems. Car started running mid 12s and ended up running lower 11s for the last 3 years.

Broke two axles and did no damage to the gears.

As far as I know they are still in the car as I sold it last summer.
