Road Trip

sacoo1... came up with an idea that i should post a survey to see who would be interested in my route to n.c roadtrip and possibly meeting some CACC members along the way?

CS,

I would!

It would be great to meet as many members as possible. You maybe able to hit a few of the local shows too.

Either way have a ball.

Rick

Got the heater shu-off valve installed last night and it seems to work at keeping the heat out of the inside. thursday i will check all fluids and load the vette and friday morn i am gone. i think i am ready, it sure took me by surprise at the things i "HAD" to do to get ready for this trip. just riding around town you don't alwys upkeep your vette like you should , i know i learned a lot about this from the prep for my trip.:w :w :w :w :w

Well tommorrow i will leave for the drive to N.C... I am excited about the trip and ready to go to see my dad. It's funny how much we pamper our corvette's and the care we take in them. hope to see some of you along the journey:_rock :_rock :_rock

" KICK THE TIRES AND LIGHT THE FIRE" , I am counting down hours

Uh, don't forget, check the oil first! :cool

Have a great trip, we're all excited for you! :jump

That will be checked and done before i leave. i guess i need to check these things along the way too,. never too careful

Left saturday on my trip and about 8:30 pm in nebraska my speedometer went to "O" when i was doing 75 mph. does anyone know if there is a fuse for this? it is the only one that did this. my tacometer is ok and am using it for spped calculations, i think the speedometer cable might of broke? proceeded on and got to bowling green kentucky sunday about 2:30 pm and went to see about a plant tour , my son is with me on the trip, was told no tours on the weekends so proceeded to corvette museum and bought corvette stuff and tour. after we left the national corvette musuem we decided to get a room in bowling green kentucky. as we were downloading things into the room i took the faceplate off the stereo and the gauge panel began to smoke, i guess the guy before me that put in the cd player didn't tape the wires so they wouldn't do something like this. the tape player shifted back into the wires and when it was all done it took out my clock and burnt my carbon fiber dash. got to charlotte n.c. and am visiting my family now and will start back to utah on monday morning. is there anyone here that lives in charlotte? this trip has had a few setbacks but i am trying to stay positive and adapt to the situation.

U've got 2 luv it when a plan comes together . . .

Sounds like u r going through some military field maneuvers, but it also sounds like u r Hanging Tuff !!!

Carl, that doesn't sound too bad. Sorry about the dash though, but I guess she's still running strong & healthy, which is a good thing. Remember when you get into that dash to check out what else Bubba may have gotten into.

I know I've seen some strange modifications when I was investigating other problems, just be patient and fix em as you find em.

Did you and your son enjoy the trip, lots of vettes to wave to? Taking pictures along the way? Post your experiences when you can, and enjoy the family get together!

Steve :w

Thanks for all the response and encouragement. i am still here in N.C. till monday morn. yesterday i had to stop and get a new valve stem installed on my back tire. the tire was going flat and the valve stem would't take air. taken care of now.. what;s next. i will be back online soon.

A lot of us are following your trip with curiosity as we prepare for the drive to Bowling Green for Sharkfest. A couple of minor problems that didn't deter you from the trip. :upthumbs My fear is I'll get half way to Sharkfest and end up in a rental car with the Vette in an unknown shop.

Bob

Yes that has been my concern too but not happened. i have noticed that i stop more with the vette to just let it rest a little more than i would a normal car. i was kinda shocked how bowling green was, sort of ghetto. especially with the corvette plant and museum there. oh well. i think when you take a older vette like ours on these long trips you expect some problems and that's when they will probally happen, we only drive or corvettes at home for short distances. be back soon

:w :w :w :w :w :w

back home now... the trip was fun and enjoyed the corvette museum, have photos but my scanner went out, will have to grt another one.. final problems...

1. speedometer cable needs to be fixed
2. clock and carbon fiber bezel needs fixed and eplaced
3. hydralic lifters nees to be adjusted
4. a/c line need to be moved lower

other than this for the '80 corvette to be as old as she is , she did quite well and got around 16 mpg on the road. fairly comfortable ride. i will post pictures when i get scanner fixed:cool :cool :cool :cool

CS- all in all sounds like a wonderfull trip-expierience you had.

Dave

Carl,

Glad you made it back safely and had a great trip. And you wanted to sell the '80. Ha!! Who says an old C3 can't make a long trip? Got mine ready to go for Sharkfest this week.

............. Nut

Carl,

Glad to see you made it both ways, major trouble free! Hope you and your son enjoyed the ride, sounds like a great trip. Sorry you couldn't make Carlisle it was a blast!

All in all are you happy with the way the 80 performed? I drove mine back & forth daily to Carlisle (total about 600 miles) and I was essentially happy, just too much rattling going on. (I'll have to work on that.)

Steve :w

Yes i was real happy with the way my vette performed on the trip. i do not blame the stuff that went wrong on the vette, it was just wear and tear and would have happened if i hadn't gone. i will be getting the speedo cable replaced this week along with getting the hydraulic lifters adjusted. the consold problem will be a little longer. i am planning on getting the oil changed this week too and that will probably be the last time the vette see's the road this year. during the winter i will replace both door panels along with door lock knobs. i may replae all bushings....
