ROD 6 speed mod question

Does anyone know if I can keep the original shifter console plate in my 69 if I put in a Richmond 6 speed? Does the stock opening allow enough space for 6 gears instead of 4?
If not, what has anyone else done to solve this problem?
Thanks for your input!- Eric

I use that trans and shifter in a 71. I was able to retain the stock console plate. You have to trim some of the reinforcing rib that is on the underside of the plate but that does not affect the plate's appearance on top.

Thanks! I was hoping it would not be an issue. I'm trying to keep as much of the stock look while adding my need for speed performance.

You're going to love that transmission! Did you order it "off the shelf" or did you custom gear it to your specs?

FYI - I'm more into drag racing than road racing, and have used the T-handle on four-speeds before, but with the ROD six-speed I've found that it's not a good match; I have a tendency to push too hard when going from second to third and can accidently hit fifth gear instead. I have since switched back to the round knob and found it much more controllable that way. Now I just gotta practice, practice, practice. :bu

Ken- Not ordering it for a little while. Chris(69myway) helped me find someone her in CO way more talented than I to do some serious upgrades to the Vette. Since I have to pay for labor, I have to continue to save more before purchasing anything. I want to do the transmission and engine swap (stock ZZ4 with Doug Thorley headers) and upgrade the suspension ( VBP Perf Plus) at the same time. And of course all the little things will add up like making a decision on keeping the stock sb hood or buying and painting a L88 long hood and get rid of the wiper door and not have to modify anything on the engine to fit a sb hood...better starter, etc..
My dream mod list was about 1 and ½ pgs.
I've been saving for about a year and probably gonna get there in a few months (I hope!).
Not sure what has been more difficult, keeping the cash from my wife or the daily dream of how great it's gonna be to take up my annoying neighbor on his race challenge with his 67 mustang.
