Hi,

After giving my wheels a good cleaning yesterday I noticed dirt all over the wheels about 15 minutes after i was done. I assume it is coming from the wet rotors ... Is there a trick to avoid this such as running the vette before washing and "cleaning" the brakes? I apoligize in advance if this has been dicussed i could not find a topic searching the archives...

Thanks!

Not sure what could be causing your particular problem. I haven't had that one. But, check out the thread that I posted under the detailing titled "Break Dust solution" or something like that. The stuff really works. I'd just suggest giving everything a through cleaning with it and see it that resolves it.

After you lean your wheels take the car for a run up and down the highway. (Ahhh that was fun.)

Watch out for the hot rotors (ouch!). Now use liberal amount of quick detailer spray on a damp cloth to wipe off the offending crude then use a clean soft towel and lightly buff it dry. Watch out for the hot rotors (ouch!).

If you just washed the car you will also notice water streaks from the mirrors and other crevices. The detailer spray is great for that too.

I like "Meguiar's Quik Detailer" spray but some people like Mother's Showtime spray. Meguiar's costs a bit more but I think it takes a lot less effort to buff clear than the Mother's.

Watch out for the hot rotors (ouch!). A pair of Mechanix gloves will help protect your hands.

I know exactly what he is talking about. I believe what he is seeing is the rust that drips from the rotors onto the back sides of the wheels after washing. I have seen this on the wheels of our '04. I have tried washing it and not driving it as well as driving it to blow some water off and the result is the same. It is aggravating to say the least.

Thanks for the tips everyone helpful ... My main question was how to avoid the rust drippings in the first place, brakedust is easy but these rust drippings are a pain ...

Dooscoop 32, you know what i mean ... is there a solution for this, such as wet the rotors down, drive them and heat them up ... then wash the wheels? Or heat them up, then wash them? Somone must have figured out this puzzle ...

Its an unsolved mystery...as soon as any moisture gets on the rotors...bingo...brown rust forms...its miserable...you just have to keep cleaning the crap off after it drips...:cry

After washing my car, I use a leaf blower to get the main water off the car and especially blow in the wheel and brake areas. I don't get the dripping rust problem although the rotors are rusty when done.

After I wash and dress the tires I blow the rims and brakes with compressed air. That stops the brake drip.....................

Me too.

I also drive the car a little to dry the pads and rotors, as discs are always slightly rubbing.

Hi First Vette -

It is rust in the cooling vanes of the rotor (vented rotor...) that spews out as soon as you get up to speed after washing the car.

Either plated rotors or extensive cleaning after each wash are the only remedys.

best regards -
