While I was replacing the calipers on my 82, I also wanted to check the park brake shoes but found that I could not remove the rotors to look at the shoes.
I vaguely caught the idea that there are some rivets involved here. Can anyone shed some light on my problem. I would like to check my park brake shoes.
Thanks

The rotors came from the factory riveted to the spindles in the rear and the hub for the fronts. If you still have the rivets ten they are most likely orignal unless someone went to the trouble of re-riveting them when rebuilding them-doubtful.

The linkage is most likely rust seized, the shoes may be ok, the rear cable may not. You will have to remove the caliper, then drill out the rivets with a 5/16" bit drive out the bodies and then you might get the rotor off. The shoes could be expanded if you ever tried to adjust them so be careful they're holding the rotor back.Mark the position of the rotor to a stud so they go back on in the same orientation. I would do a rotor runout check prior to drilling out the rotors to see if there is any runout. It should be under .005" with under .003" much better.

good luck

Thanks for the advise Coupeman.

Have A greatday.
