Is it running properly? What did the trick?
Changing the points, setting the dwell and timing. Of course that was the last thing I did, so everything else probably helped or fixed other issues. Such as the carb rebuild, you could smell fuel after shutting down before the rebuild. The fuel filter/pump, wires/plugs.

I think the best advise was to go through everything as one of the guy's stated you don't know what has been done over the past 40 years...

thaus65,

Welcome aboard to a great support net of fellow midyear lovers. I cannot offer anything new to your initial issues but it's safe to say all these folks who chimed here are knowledgeable and respected. I tend to spend more time reading, printing off these topics, marking for my paper library all the great information found here and the other forum.

Again, glad to have you here. :beer

Regards,

Jim

I am the new owner of 65 convertible 327/365, 4 speed no air, power anything w/#'s all matching original knock-offs's and side exhaust that has been run about 200 miles over the past several years. I am just in the process of investigating and repairing the few items I've found...

I would appreciate your thoughts and guidance in a few areas:

2. While driving around over 1,500 RPM the shifter rattles extremely bad! Is there a rebuild kit or is replacement required? Also, is this an indicator of a loose transmission or engine?

I've been scanning the board and have picked up a lot of valuable info, thank you in advance.
Just throwing in my 2 cents...Mine also does this, but usually at 60 MPH...[Note: have 3:70 gearing]...So I think it's normal...

If I'm driving a while on highway, just toss a towel over the shifter...No noise...
