Rowe finishes 5th in strong Texas Nationals field
SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Danny Rowe qualified his '63 Corvette in the top half of the Pro Mod field Saturday evening in his return to racing on the IHRA circuit, finishing No. 5 in a large field of cars attempting to qualify for the season-opening Amalie Oil Texas Nationals.Rowe's best run of 6.106 on Friday held up for the No. 5 spot and trailed only the four drivers who managed 6.0-second runs at San Antonio Raceway. In a small bit of irony, he'll open up eliminations on Sunday against No. 12 Matt Hagan, the same driver he faced in the first round last weekend at the NHRA Pro Mod opener in Gainesville.
Rick Distefano led Texas Nationals qualifying with a 6.062 best. A total of 33 Pro Mods attempted at least one qualifying run, and a number of top entries finished outside of the show, including Shannon Jenkins, the second-place points finisher in 2005; Ed Hoover, the defending event champion; and drivers such as Harold Martin, Thomas Patterson, and Billy Harper.
Eliminations in all professional classes get under way at 11 a.m. local time on Sunday.
