RR Track Killed my HRE rims!

Yes, when it rains, it pours.
This has been the week - sigh

Have read very bad reviews on the Viper web board re: HRE and repair service. Maybe its gotten better??

Anyone have suggestions on a repair company that you trust?

Thanks
Rain

Wow! Terrible luck for sure!

I have trusted this company w/ wheels that are not replaceable - That is how much I trust them!!

If you decide to call, ask for John -

Please tell him Chris told you about the Corvette wheel repair - he did such a fantastic job, I reccomend him :m

(it runs about $95 per wheel - and they ship UPS DAILY!)

I had 4 Vette wheels repaired w/ dents in the lips similar to what you described back in 1990 - they are still fine...

Thanks for the good thoughts and the info.
I will try to contact John between now and the weekend.
Susan made it to Kosciusko, MS about 9 or 930 tonight and we've been catching up on the week.. yes, she had to go to Indiana to the workshop.
We will both be back on the coast on Friday afternoon.

Appreciate all of you!

Rain,

Let's just hope that you've now satisfied the condition that "bad things come in 3's".
I'm sorry to hear about your misfortunes and your grandfather. Hang in there.

Welcome to the HRE bent rim club. I hit a pot hole at night and bent the front right rim...had the outer rim replaced...a week later hit another pot hole and bent the repaired one all over again. Score 100% ...two pot holes, two bent rims.

I don't know if HRE's are more prone to bend than other wheels but they sure bend easily.

yes, am learning Im not the only target with HRE wheels out there! haha

Its just been one of those weeks - feel like i need to set up my pay pal account and raise funds for folks to come kick me square in the tail! LOL! ;LOL

Prev. owner had JUSt replaced the front left rim from a pothole bounce so I should have guessed that these three piece wheels and low profile tires needed extra care and zero night time driving.

I read on a Viper board that HRE had really poor customer service back in 2003.
And I have now been told of a few repair shops with speedy turnaround and great quality work.

Believe we are going to put the stock Y2K wheels back on the car and only put the HRE rims out for car shows and parades.. Its just too risky right now with road conditions as unpredictable as they are.. $$$

Will post pics later today.

Getting a second set of wheels is an idea that I'm going to copy. I've kept the origional wheels all I need to do is stick tires on them. It's getting pretty expensive changing out the outer rim everytime a pot hole gets hit.

the tracks:
white line at my feet is outside lane. (again, I was taking these from the gravel, beyond the shoulder of the road, and people were driving off the highway and onto the shoulder to go over this crossing)

Front tire - not too bad, just a few flat spots

They look very fixable from the photos. As long as the spokes are still true you should not have a problem. Are the insides of the rims bent too?

Take a look at this:

I have never used them but their prices seem fair.

Yes, I think the rims are all still true. I drove it the couple of hours from Indianola to Kosckiusko, MS Thursday at 50-70mph.
And then from Kosciusko, MS to Biloxi, MS (4 hours or so) today at 70 most of the way with no vibration or pull.

nope - wanst sure I trusted a mobile wheel service when outer rings were going to be required.. must be ordered from HRE directly.

But never hurts to ring em up does it!
Thanks for the reminder

UPDATE:
I let Wheelmasters take care of it.
Caught the repair truck a few blocks from my home working on a C5 wheel and had him stop by and give me a quote.
$100 a wheel and an extra 50$ gave me a total bill of 350$
fixed my wheels off the car. I dropped it off at a local tire shop they partnered up with and it took only a couple of hours.
