Safety recalls

Hi everybody,

does anyone of you have informations about safety recalls "wheel suspension" and "flywheel" specially europe C5 models?
Here in Germany there is a lot of confusion since a C5 completely burnt out on the highway near Regensburg. One day before the car has been inspected!

The reason for that is nonofficial. There are speculations that a broken flywheel which damaged the fuel line caused this fire.
Since that time some Corvette-dealers changed flywheels on several Corvettes for free! But no official recall was known even though those dealers did that job.
Now I am also confused and I want my dealer to change the flywheel of my 99 C5. But I need a GM recall no.

Please help.

the GM tech computer site has nothing about any flywheel problems. remember that you can weaken a flywheel by slipping the clutch and overheating causing cracks in the flywheel. also if someone removed the RPM limiter from the computer over reving the engine can cause the flywheel to fail

There are no campaigns (recalls) or technical service bulletins issued for flywheels on C5s. The idea that a flywheel failure, due to a defective part, caused a fire is sheer speculation.

If someone heated the clutch to the point that the flywheel failed or disabled the rev limiter then overrev'ed the engine enough for the flywheel to fail, that would not be the fault of the parts. Someone who'd do those things deserves their car burning.

i bet it was a fuel leak in the engine compartment,possibly the schrader valve fuel pressure test point.

I will post the reason here as soon as we will get the expert´s report.
This will take some time since these facts are currently well known but publication of them is legally protected.
