Well, I'm stumped! Does anyone know the trick on how to gain access to the rear bolts that fasten the seat track to the seat bottom? The front bolts are located on the inside of the seat pan. However, the rear bolt heads are buried somewhat inside the track itself and I cannot see an easy way to dismantle the track mechanism itself.

Help!!!

Assuming you mean the passenger seat ???, simply remove the front 2 bolts, track the seat forward until you can see the bolt heads on the 2 rear bolts as they are countersunk into the track itself. You can not see the back 2 bolt heads until they line up in the access holes within the track requiring one to move the seat to expose them.
Dont feel so "duh" when you try it and find this answer to be true- my bride had to show me and she is as mechanically inclined as our house cat..:L

Mike,

Yeah, I did mean the passenger seat. I tried that trick with the access holes and that's my problem...the holes don't line up with the bolt heads!!!

Now, this seat is 23 years old and probably never serviced before so I'll try some gentle taps and some grease to see if I can get the access hole to line up with the bolt head.

Thanks for the assistance.

Eric, if I remember correctly (took my seats out in June- eons ago for my beer brain) I had to use a metric socket -not sure on this- but the socket BARELY fit into the access hole and had to use about a 1 foot extension since there's very little room behind the seat back and the cargo area-very tight fit.
Sounds like your tracks have been pushed to one side , perhaps by someone "falling" into the seat repeatedly- maybe even an overweighted person.
The tracks themselves have the access holes, mine aligned perfectly once I was educated on how to find them. Good luck

If you are having problems lining up the rear bolts, try using a punch or an awl to get them lined up. Be sure the front bolts are NOT tight this gives you a little more flexabilty when trying to align the back holes ;)

Then like Mike said, use a 1/4" drive or a 3/8" drive with LONG ext.

I put new carpets in Rare with EXTRA padding and just a little bit of trouble with all the extra getting everything back together. I ended up using different bolts to start with, once I got it snugged down I went back to the original bolts.

Good Luck..

Well, thanks for the suggestions. I finally got the access holes in the seat track to line up with the bolt heads. The tracks were rusty and some WD40 freed it up enough to line up.

Thanks everyone.

Eric
