In my stock heads of my '81 there is a sensore/sending unit in each head near the header on both sides, I think one is the temperature sending unit but what is the other on the other side? Anyone help me?:beer

temp switches

I am not positive but what I remember from my motor change out is this:
The passenger side sensor is the water temp. The drivers side sensor starts/stops the electric radiator fan.
Not near my shop manual, but am sure someone with the correct knowledge will chime in soon. Good day,

sounds right to me. I agree 100% on the passenger side head. It controls the electric fan

Yes!...passenger side = fan thermal switch

driver side = coolant temperature sensor.

thanx

thanx for setting me straight guys....... couldn't remember which was on which side.......must a been the beer that done it, eh?
:beer

since we are talking sending sensors - location...

Is there any provision for an oil temp sender, or will it have to be tapped, and threaded. The motor is a 79. Thanks

????

now you're getting too technical for me. My 81 has an oil temp sensor, just can not remember where its at. Someone else will chime in, have a beer and wait a few minutes. If not, I'll crack out my shop manual tomorrow night here at work.
