setting the timing

stock 350, Q jet, less smog pump & AIR parts & Cat.
I know that timing is to be 6 degrees BTDC, but the EMC is supposed to be disabled ....aint it? I've been told that you cross (?) the "D" and "E" terminals on the "gizmo" under the center console ashtray. Can anybody clear this up for me? I'm almost to the point of going to the non computer carb and dist discussed on another thread.

I think all you have to do to set the timing is disconnect the 4 wire plug coming out of the distributor,no need to "cross any wires".

Thanks Burgular, I found something to that effect in reviewing some reading material today but have to wait until I finish a "project" for my sister on her car. I made the mistake of going home for xmas, she lives alone and recuperating from back surgury, etc, etc. AND her 95 Lumina is going so crazy she can't drive it or afford to have someone else to fix it. thanks again Burgular. regards, jim
