Question: Shell's New Nitrogen Enriched Gasolines?

Not sure what it does or how it reacts, but just to dispel a few myths in the thread.....

Nitrogen is an inert gas so it will not burn. It will bind with other atoms but its also not coresive on its own as N2. It is the most abundent gas in the air we breathe so I'm not sure how the little extra added to the gas makes a significant difference in the vast majority that gets sucked in through your intake anyway.

Nitrogen as I said is in many forms... a inert gas and liquid or bonded with
ammonium to for ammonium nitrate. Still nitrogen. Liquid nitrogen would have to stay chilled and the tanks on a car or at the gas station is not doing that. Inert gas form would not work either as it would dispel as soon as you pumped it in the tank. If it's bonded which can happen in several forms of bonding it comes from a compound state. It is corrosive in some forms. The problem is none of us know shells recipe for the fuel..

Here is a list of forms of nitrogen. 4 of them are placard corrosive.

Nitrogen
Nitrogen (JP14/NF)
Nitrogen (liquefied)
Nitrogen (liquified)
Nitrogen gas
nitrogen molecule
Nitrogen, compressed
Nitrogen, compressed [UN1066] [Nonflammable gas]
Nitrogen, refrigerated liquid
Nitrogen, refrigerated liquid (cryogenic liquid) [UN1977] [Nonflammable gas]
Nitrogen, refrigerated liquid cryogenic liquid
Nitrogen-14
NITROGEN-MOLECULE

OK one tank burned and re fuel I noticed no difference in mpg or performance at all. 20.5 mpg that tank.:ohnoes

Too bad you can't intentionally add some gunk to the engine and see if it cleans it :L.

Just wondering did you notice if your Shell has increased in price. The one near me, that was usually one of the lowest is now 10 cents higher than the other stations I watch.

I haven't been to Shell yet since they got their new gas, and was wondering if it is just all their gas (and all more expensive) or a special type they have at the pump.

LOL on some gunk.... not going to do that...
As far as price goes it's no differnet than any of the others.

Hmmmm, I found the disclaimer at the end of the Shell article more eye opening than the article itself........

Anyone that is worried about nitrogen being corrosive should not be burning ethanol.
If you read closely they stated that the nitrogen stabilizes the cleaner. I think it said that it makes the cleaners last longer in the engine.

[ Nitrogen is a key element of the active cleaning molecule in the new fuel, making it significantly more stable at higher temperatures common in modern engines, such as direct fuel-injection gasoline engines. The increased stability ensures that the molecule can work under much tougher engine conditions by resisting thermal breakdown better than conventional cleaning additives. ]

My wife has noticed an increase in gas mileage the last few fills. This might be due to the fact that formulation is changed in the fall for winter driving and again in the spring for summer driving. I have never noticed the change this early, usually well into April.;shrug
We see one to two miles per gal diff. from winter to summer gas.

That would probably explain the recent hike of 10 cents per gallon at both Shell stations we frequent. Usually their prices vary and we choose one or the other depending on which way we go to Allentown. But now they are EXACTLY the same;shrug

Well after 3 tanks I notice nothing. No difference in performance or
mpg. Now I am not going to tear it down to see if the absence of
gunk is present or not, however during a pre-race show for Nascar
today Jennie Zelasko (hottie) interviewed Kevin Harvick about a recent
commercial that he shot about the nitrogen fuel and I thought it was
funny he said it was for their new gimmick.... Gimmick.... lol.:rotfl

Wow. Considering Shell is his main sponsor they must be real proud of him.
