Shift boot

I've read the threads on removing the shift knob. GREAT write-ups! My question is after I get the knob off, how do you get the boot off. I have an 85, OD on the console. I can get the console off, but the plastic reverse "T-bar" on the shifter appears to be holding the top of the boot in place.

Try this thread, you have to unthread the T-bar. I've not done this, but I can almost visualize it from the instructions.
