How do I get my shifter knob off on a '96 manual stick? I've tried to unscrew as hard as I dare and it won't budge. Don't see any hints under the plastic cap on top. Want to lube the linkage from above but can't get to it.

Thanks,
Chetzki

You carefully pry off the plastic shift pattern. Then there's a big leadish looking "T" under it. You have to pull that thing out before you can unscrew the knob. It can really be wedged in there, so be careful not to damage the shift knob, yourself, or the car when taking it out.

I dremelled mine down slightly so it fit back in snugly but easily.

Thank you - I didn't see that part. I knew there had to be something to it. Glad I didn't rip it apart!

Thanks!
