shock front

I changed the front shocks on my car this evening. The passenger side came right out, new shock went back in no problem. But the driver side, I like to never got it in, and when I finally did it feels like it is in a bind? Any clues? The shocks that I took off were old AC Delco dated 1987. I put on new Delco gas shocks.
