I have a slight issue getting the car into reverse. This may be a sycro problem or an issue with the shifter? I was told if the the problem was syncros then changing the shifter to a short throw would make the problem much worse. Does anyone know the answer?

I tried to find the procedure for aligning your shifter, but could not find a link I liked. I would try the shifter alignment first as there are I believe three screws which hold the assemble in place and have been known to loosen and allow the shifter to move. I believe you loosen the screws, Torq's possibly put in an alignment pin which should be with the shifter arm somewhere and then torque the screws back down.

I think you have to remove your center console to do this procedure

I cannot find where I read it

Maybe someone else knows of a link with instructions and photos.

Try this

Let out the clutch in netrual. This will spin the reverse cluster gear. The sliding mainshaft gear and cluster gear are probably butted up gear tooth to gear tooth. This will reposition the gear teeth so they will measch. I don't think the reverse sliding gear has a sync ring. Never been in a vette straight shift but i think this is what is going on and is normal in most straight shifts. If it is a cronic issue maybe you have other problems.
