First off I have never owned a vette. Recently an L81 Beige/D. Bronze two tone has become available. It is in pretty good shape, Interior is a little rough needs carpet driver's leather, TLC. Exterior just needs a bath. It runs fine no smoke, but does have 128,000 miles. Everything seems to be there except radio. Owner is asking 4000 and I wanted to know if this would be a good investment.
Thanks for the help.

Keltic74,

First of all, welcome to the Corvette Action Center! Secondly, I'm not one who is able to give good advice about whether you should buy this car or not...I'll let those CAC members who are knowledgeable about the '81 come back to you with answers.

I would say that for $4,000 it might be an ok car to buy, especially if you know how to work on cars. One thing you are sure to learn about Corvettes is that everything costs a lot more than you expected!

Let us know how you make out!

Welcome Keltic74!

Welcome to Corvette Action Center.

$4k sounds like a good deal, but only if everything checks out okay. We have a checklist you can print out to take with you when you look at the vette, it may seem like overkill, but I guarantee if you have that list, you won't forget to look at something or ask about it!
It is in the Tools tab at the top of the webpage.

Myself, I am a fan of the higher mileage vettes as the high mileage represents many miles of happy driving.
The best advice I can give you is to buy the best maintained vette you can afford! Request documentation on the care and maintenance this vette has received. I would personally like to buy from an anal-retentive person who fixed everything correctly, immediately and upgraded items at the time of repair or as needed.

Good luck shopping, and I hope you can join us again as a vette owner. Whether you do or do not purchase...you are still welcome here!
