Should I change my hood?

Just curious what people think. My hood bit the dust, so I need to get a new one.

Stock or modified? If modified, what type?

I'm leaning toward the "stinger," but I've never seen one of these on a C3, up close, so I'm not 100% on it, yet. I'd like to get people's opinions on this.

A higher rise hood is that much harder to see over.

I prefer more of a quiet, but killer car.

I think you want to keep modifications down to things that are bolt on/off. Changing the hood makes is (in my opinion) an incorrect car.

Stinger

I saw one on a silver C3 with stripes over the top. I don't know what to call the stripes...rally? Baldwin?
Anyway, with the two-tone paint and the stinger hood it looked very nice.

Your original hood bit the dust, replace it with what you want. Especially if you plan on doing modifications under the hood.

i like the stock cowl look but raised up some,i cut my factory hood and raised it to a 4 inch cowl induction.

I love the stinger on a 67 427. Probably my favorite car.

the l-88 is my vote, it will give you more room for a taller manifold/air cleaner assembly.

Well, it could have had fan blades that went through it, something heavy land on it or even just crack and/or break at the hinge or latch points, any of these mishaps could damage a hood beyond saving.

In my case, it was the hinge mounts. See, my hood used to clear the bottom of my garage door, when open. But then I replaced my tires with the correct size, which raised the car a bit. I got up one morning, was still half asleep and not thinking, and rolled the car back with the hood up, to clean some antifreeze off the floor (I had the hood up because I had half the cooling system removed and at odd angles). Well, it no longer cleared the door, and caught the last half-inch of door. Just enough to destroy the fiberglass at both hinge mounts.

So, let that be a lesson to everyone: don't sleep and wrench...

My 64 is pretty much stock except for a 67 big block hood. I recently got a stencil kit to put on the black stinger I love. This will be done real soon. If you are one of the anal types about keeping it original, then do. I just want a great looking and running ride. It is your car, do what you like.

My 81 got a 3 inch tunnel type hood sometime in its existence.It sets it apart from the rest, but thats the only non- stock item on the car.

I guess if my car had other mods, it wouldn't matter as much, but, if I had my ruthers, I'd hang a stock hood back on it.Someday between now and the body off it will receive some day. Jim

It's your car, have fun with it. I personally like the '79 hood with the L-82 emblems. My old roommate had one and he'd park it next to my '82. We'd compare/contrast the difference between the 3 years of the cars production. I would tell him I wish mine had hood emblems and he went on to say he liked my hood better than his! Grass is greener syndrome?
Now if I had a C2, no matter what year, I'd break my oath of stock-only and put a '67 427 stinger hood on it. Whoot!

I went with the L88 hood.

You get used to the slight visabilty problem- you can't see the passenger fender anymore, but thats okay because you couldn't see through the passenger fender in the first place!

Of course, the added height helps keep the temperatures underhood down. I run about 180 constant.

While at it... could get a taller garage door (or lower profile tires)... Ouch!

i have the l-88 with the air chamber (cowl induction) another cool thing is watching the aircleaner shake when hitting the gas...i know kind of childish but fun...especially for a new passenger

I have no problem with visibility at all.

With the added clearance I was able to use much less of a drop base air cleaner and a 3" filter. That really stabalized the a/f ratios because much of the negative turbulence is eliminated at the carb throat.
