I am in no way afraid to drive the car!!! Either you mis-read my post, or you do not understand the point.

I can claim anything I want about the car, since it is mine, at least the last time I looked in the garage!

I don't think anybody here really WANTS you to sell your '81, or thinks you're 'scared' to drive the car;
they just want you to 'enjoy' the car, the way it was intended to be, which is to drive the car.
Nothing sucks like attending a hot-rod get-together and leaving your own car at home.....

I for one would not have a different opinion if it was an 66 instead of an 81. U can wreck the car just going to the corner store so don't let that fear stop you from driving it to Auburn. It is a Corvette and it was made to be driven. If you know the car can make the trip mechanically I see no reason to leave it home. I guess I am spoiled in the fact that I can drive my Vette alot. I drive it as much as humanly possible and probaby will put about 4-5 k a year on it. I get too much pleasure cruising around to worry about someone hitting me and wrecking the car. It can be fixed and if not they made 50K+ 84's I can get another. Hope I don't sound too brash but that is just my opinion. One of my pet peeves is people not driving their Vettes cause they are afraid they make break or get hit. Just my .02

Well, if this is any consolation to you, Trent...thus far (if I caught them all), you have already collected at least 14¢ from seven members.

C'mon...How much more is it gonna take to get you and your '81 to CruiseFest??? :L :L

I would drive it. I got my 75 (first corvette) about 2 month ago and didn't drive it allot, I wish I would have driven it allot more then I did, because now I have to wait to put a new engine in her before I can drive her again.
I love the car, and it sucks to see her sit tell I can save the money to get her on the road again.
Enjoy and drive it

Trent,

Another 2 cents from me (how much is that, Evo? 16 cents?...:L

The flip side of the coin is that driving one's vehicle alot has its cons. Wait 'till you all see my road warrior. And it looks better now, because I sank about 6 big bills on the motor, transmission, rear end, carpet, storage tray (the one behind the seat), console, exhaust...on...and on...and on.

The good news is that if you drive it, you won't kill your car. The bad news is that if you don't, then you won't want to be there without it.

Like I said before, either way you'll be welcomed. Drive it or tow it. But your car is probably one of the best survivors out there. It would be a shame not to show it.

I think the truth is in that sentance somewhere.
Is it the car you "love"?, a waste then, would be to not to drive it.
Is it an investment?, then dont drive it, sell it now and invest the money elsewhere.

I know to some of you this seems like a ridiculous question and the obvious answer should be YES, you idiot!!

But, here's the deal....I have an 81 that I bought when I was a Senior in High School. Drove it the first year and a half of college and then parked it at home and drove it when I was there, which wasn't much. After graduating High School I joined the Air Force as a pilot and never drove it. I got out of the Air Force in 1997 because of a broken back. Now, my car just turned 22,682 miles, all original. Some of you have seen the car and it looks as good as it did the day I drove it off the show room floor.

I'm not saying its any better or any worse than any vette here, as a matter of fact there are quite a few better than mine.

Its approximately 600 miles to Auburn from Memphis, I know the car would make the trip a hundred times. But, A lot can happen during a trip that long.

I have had the car appraised for value and insurance purposes. If I wrecked the car on a trip that long it would be basically worthless because of the restrictions of my carrier. The car was appraised at $22,500.00 three years ago, not sure what its worth today, could be less or it could be more.

I Love the car, I love driving the car, Hell I just like to sit and stare at it! My wife thinks i'm nuts (Rare81 can vouch for that). Its like looking at a time warp, taking me back to my glory years

If I drive it and wreck it, it would kill me. I'm not so much worried about my driving, as I am about everybody elses. My two kids were rear ended within a week of each other. If I wreck it, I would have then wasted all of this time by not driving the car, and that would drive me insane.

I know it sounds crazy but what would you guys do?

Or should I just buy a late model and drive it to Auburn? Say, a 94 or 95.

Nobody on there deathbed ever said " I wish I could have worked more. They want more time to enjoy life. What are you waiting for?
If the car was ripped off you would want to drive it. You have the car and your ripping yourself off. Enjoy it. Check your insurance and get the right coverage if you don't already have it. See you on the road.............

Hey Bro,

Whatever you decide We'll see ya in Auburn It don't make a hoot to me one way or the other, just get you fly butt there... The DAWG needs a co-blender pilot ;)

:cool Yup just come on up, It doesnt matter how you get here. There is plenty of room for trailers if thats how you are coming. Who knows a trailor or two may come in handy;LOL

What the Hell!! If J.Bonifas meets me here in Memphis then i'm going to drive it up to Auburn. If I do the drive alone not sure which way I am going to go.

I will be there one way or another.

Man this is really a touchey subject for some folks.

A lot of opinions, the curious thing is that I didn't get a lot of responses from folks with low mile cars.....

I just like cars, and people that like cars, especially Corvettes. Thats what this is all about right?

Drive it, man! I am buying Guy's silver/green '82 and am flying to MA to pick it up and drive it home to OKC. It only has 37K miles right now and I am about to put 1,700 on it the first 3 days I own it. But guess what? I bought that baby to DRIVE! This will just be the first of many road trips. And I am driving it to Carlisle, too (Guy still doesn't think I will). People talk about the value going down, but it will always be the most valuable to me while I am behind the wheel.

I have waited 45 years to get a Vette. Like yours, the one I am buying is outstanding. Why keep it sitting in the garage? Pay a few more bucks for the insurance and get that thing on the road.

Hey Trent ... if JB goes with you, just have him run interference !! ... and deflect those big bugs down there ;LOL !!

Big Tex ... you have the RIGHT attitude !!! ... and a damn fine ride !! :upthumbs Congrats are definitely in order :m :pat
