1966,and a 1962 thats almost complete
So I was able to put a couple of hours into the car today.

I was able to mount the windsheild, and finish off the dash pad installation, test install the a/c evaporator, also cut open the radio area to mount the new stereo in,install the cowl vent and linkage, hood realise cable, instument cluster, steering column, master cylender and power booster.

Ill post some photos tomorow.

The hardest part was the dash pad. For sure anybody who plans on doing this needs paitence some thing I am lacking. My only advice on installing the dash pad is to take your time and trim the minimum you need to.My biggest problem was not removing enough foam from the back side of the pad in the dash inset area,Did I mention you have to peel off some of the foam backing.

I also need to know where the handel should be when the vent it closed

Thanks Larry

Larry,

Sounds like you are doing well on those last "few hundred" items on your punch list! It's amazing how many things can be on that list.

Had an interesting time with that dash pad ourselves so know what you mean about trimming.

On the vent handle position, when the vent is closed the handle is up and when open the handle is forward.

Looking forward to your pictures.

Thanks Rich

Up as in you see the bottom of the knob?

You know I normally work very orginized, but I havent really touched the car since febuary or so.So it took a little while to figure out what I was supposed to accomplish. I spent at least an hour looking for the hardware for the visors. Finally I had given up looking and added it to the list of things to order, while i was putting the visors back in the box they came in,I found the hardware taped to the inside of the box.My list of things to do is still in the thousands,I cant wait to get it down into the hundreds catagory.

I also had to prep my caddy for a parade tomorow

Tackle it head on and get right back into right Larry? Good for you to keep the forward pace and not get put off by the problems you hit. Amazing how all the jobs end up being so much more work than they appear on the surface. One thing always seem to lead into two or three more jobs. Great though to be able to ask questions from the other members and they are so quick to supply the answers. Wonderful having this support group as a safety net when you go into some unfamilier territory on these cars isn't it. Imagine without the internet and digital cameras! Keep up the great work and we look forward to your pics.
Take care:upthumbs

Larry, if you are speaking about the orientation of the chrome knob, when the vent is closed the knob's flat surface is facing up and the rounded portion is facing down.

Just keep crossing things off that punch list - it helps to let you know you are making progress. :)

Rich this is a photo of the handel with the cowl vent closed and pulled slightly to seal against the rubbers

Now this is a photo of my winsheild courners.I replaced the windsheild and centered the rubbers, I assembled the windsheild in my basement and it sat for a couple of weeks(no problems it looked perfect).Yesterday I finally completed the installation of the winsheild onto the car and the rubber is starting to creap out of the courners. When I removed the winsheild from its frame this area had a butyl like tape in this area. Is this a normal thing to happen and I should just put more sealer in it

The next photo is the dash area with the steering wheel installed

I am still unsure if I want to keep it yellow or paint it a semi gloss back it seems unbalanced to me now.My neighbor is going to photo shop the instrument cluster black so I can see how it will look and then photo shop the grab bar yellow to see if that balances things out.for sure grab bar yellow will be the easeyest

Ill post them photos when he gets them done to see what you guys think

Hey anybody with a stock car want to post a measurement from the windsheild to the back edge of the steering wheel so I can see how much room I was able to aquire by installing a custom dash cluster and the new steering column

Larry

car is looking great! :)

just my opinion but I think redoing the grab bar in yellow would be enough to balance out your dash area - besides, as you mentioned, much easier too.

hmmmmmm, on the other hand, the cluster area in black would really make those white face gauges pop out.

ok, i see why it is hard for you to decide which way to go on this.

sorry, i guess i wasn't much help.

Interior

Hello Larry
A little off your question, but I would just like to say that the inteior of your car looks impressive. It is almost a shame that you are putting carpet over it
take care

Larry,

I know from nothin' about straight axles....but I know what I like. That car is looking beautiful. :eek

Bob you want to know something I also know knothing of straight axles,But I am learning. Its funny I used to know the bottom of my 66 like the back of my hand, now when I see it up on the lift it looks so strange compared to the 62.

Its back on its dolley and the body shop is supposed to pick it up this week. I should be back in high gear real soon

Larry, looks great. Very tastefully done. I am really getting hooked on doing a C1 resto rod now that I've seen so many great projects on this forum.

Definitely... yellow grab handle!! It looks fantastic, Larry!!

It does look nice, but I am still partial to all black. Your seats, carpet, and door panels are black or both? oWEN

oWEN

I was originally going to have a 2 tone interiour black and yellow. But earleyer in the build of the car I was redirected on some other thoughts and really thought long and hard. There was also this yellow C1 on ebay twice that....Well was a high quaility car,but was built with some strange things on it that just made the car unsightley to me.I could see the money the fellow had in the car,I could see the quaility in the car but it did not apeal to every one.Needless to say it never sold on ebay.

Now not that I plan on selling my car,not that I am trying to please every one. I want the car to apeal to the majority of the people and it seems the best way I can do this is to stick to the classic lines and carector of the car but take advantage of all of today modern convenaces that is avalble to me.

I can go eather way on this.I think I may have to install the kick panels (witch are yellow with black insets) and the yellow heater cover and package tray.to see how it looks I chose painting the dash cluster yellow to make it look more of how the cars looked when new

Sorry oWEN I never ansered your question the seats are all black along with the stock black door panels and a straight 80/20 black carpet set not the tuxedo black (Olive like color)that it normaly is

Your car is very cool. My opinion is if you are doing original door panels and seats with carpet then do the rest original looking. But that is just me. Do not get me worng the tu tone looks cool. But as I and Barry mentioned above, the contrast between the gauges and the rest off the black suits me better.

By the way, what top are you using. I see you have soft top locks. I recommend stay fast canvas on your rag. I have it on my 911 and my father had it on his 1955 Thunderbird. Is it sweet. oWEN
