Question: Slip Yoke

I have a 79 corvette with original transmission. The slip yoke that I removed is a 27 spline slip yoke that is no longer manufacured and difficult to find as NOS. What years of corvette came with this type of slip yoke?

My guess is that while GM yokes are discon or hard to find NOS, you can get a part that is quite similar from the aftermarket. As I recall Spicer makes a lot of that stuff. I'd try a Spicer dealer.

Also, one of the major driveline parts retailers which caters to the hot rod and performance car market might be able to help. I've purchased aftermarket yokes from Inland Empire Driveline Service in California.

Thanks Hib! Actually I just went through a Driveline Professional which is why I am asking this question. It is odd that the slip yoke is different from other vettes and that no one makes or produces this part even in the aftermarket realm. Wierd...

In 79, automatic transmission type was 3 speed turbo hydra-matic 350 with a 3:55:1 rear. I'm assuming most vette's with the same transmission had the same type of slip yoke?

The TH350 take-apart front yoke was unique to the Corvette, not used on any other car. Try Paragon - they may have a used one.

Well, I had sent the drive shaft and slip yoke to "Denny's Drive Shaft" in NY. New spicer u-joints installed, shaft balance inspected and slip yoke polished. I installed a new rear transmission output shaft seal along with the drive shaft and all is well.
