On my 84 Corvette with Auto trans I am wondering what the WOT shift should come in at or do I have to lift to get it to shift? For the first time today I tried a dead stop WOT romp for the 1-2 shift. I had to lift as my tach said 6500 rpm which is awfully high for that car. Now I don't know how accurate the tach is at higher revs it seems fairly accuarate at cruise reading 2100 at 80 mph. I thought one of GM's early OD Trans(200R4 or 700R4) u had to lift to get it to shift. Normal driving it shifts great and crisp. It will chirp 2nd. But today when I did WOT it stayed to an indicated 6500 on the tach I lifted at that point though the engine is fine and I didn't hurt anything. What sets the WOT shift point and is it adjustable? Thanks for all help on this.

Also has anyone drag raced their stock 84 Vette Auto and what were your times? My car is bone stock except it has no cats.

Ignore the tach, the thing will shift on WOT. The corvette 700R4 is also the only one that allows WOT in 4th gear without shifting to 3rd.

I tried it again today twinnie trying to ignore the tach but I stayed in it longer and it still didn't shift and the engine was screaming for mercy. I am gonna buy a new governor for it and have the trans gone over after the winter or before if I have the extra funds. It doesn't bother me too much cause I know just to lift a bit. My tranny guy is good with the GM OD Trans as he did some killer 2004R's for my Turbo Regals. Just a minor annoyance right now. Car goes like stink I can tell you that. Alot stronger than I expected. These Cross Fire cars aren't bad at all. This one is stock except there are no cats on the car. It idles great and responsive as all get out. Only quirk is it occaisionally stalls right after u start it and it starts like it is flooded after but that only happens once in a blue moon.
