Someone hit my vette last night !!!!

Door keep unlocking

I really can't believe my bad luck. I go to my friends' party last night, and some a-hole that was there, while leaving, scraped my driver door, below the trim thing (which is also damaged). This girl calls out, "John, someone hit your car". The horn was beeping. A few people where already out there, i run out give the guy a mouth full and review the damage. I got the guys number, and once i goto Macco and get an estimate he's paying me the money. Probably a few $100. I got 25 witnesses, ALL OF MY FRIENDS.

But beside this BS now, i have a problem. The locking mechanism was "acting up". I generally lock my doors when driving, but it just wouldn't stay. It would unluck, then lock and keeping try to lock again, even after it was locked. I dont know what was going on. This was like 15 min drive home, much of the time.

Does the security or passive entry thing need to be reset somehow? This happen to anyone else?

Why would you take your vette to Macco in the first place?

I wouldn't take a $500 junker to Macco, go to a real paint shop and have it done properly, because it will come back to haunt you later.

All you have to do is replace the side rubber molding and paint the lower part of the door. And you have to paint the rubber side molding.

This is not a big job, and when you sell your vette, it will look right. A Macco paint job is not the way to go.

I would rather use touch-up paint and Langka, then waste my money with Macco.

Anyway that's my 2 cents.

kingman... sorry for the confusion. I am 100% agreeing with you, just to clearify.

I AM ONLY GETTING THE ESTIMATE AT MACCO.

I would NEVER, EVER get my corvette painted at Macco in a 1 million years. The douche before me did and it looks terrible. Its only the close and major paint place that everyone knows. I just want some numbers, to show the as_hole that hit my car last night what it will cost, he can write a check and i'll be done with it. Never have to see him again. I dont want to drag this out. It would take me weeks to research a better place, go down there, see other cars that have been painted, check references, etc.

Plus, I have a another big dent over the front tire that is $500+ estimate on that too. I plan to get the entire car redone eventually.

Uh oh, NEVER get Macco.

Good show! Before you have you vette painted at any local shop, check out his work on vettes, because it is a little harder to satisfy vette owners then the reg run of the mill cars.

It is my understanding that if the vette has a wax or polish that contains silicates, one will have to take careful preparation to remove all that is possible (some silicates will still remain impregnated in the fiberglass) before applying paint. Otherwise, you will have 'fisheye' finish. Just mention this to the paint shop and see if they are aware of the prep for fiberglass.

one of my key fobs does the same thing yours is doing,if i leave "passive" on, it will cycle the locks,i leave passive off anyway,i had my 89' painted at macco6 months later the paint was chipped all over the front of the car,i took it back and they would not fix it.they said "all cars get chips on the front like that", thats B.S.,there was alot less chips on the original paint when i brought it in.its possible the battery needs to be replaced in the key fob(s).later,Todd.

Thanks guys. After the "estimate", i'll see what i can do with my orbital polisher and touch-up paint. There is no dent, just scrapes. Certainly worth an afternoon to try myself.

But any ideas about why the door lock was going crazy. I'll going out now, and i'll see what happens.

I wouldn't even go to Maaco for an ESTIMATE, as they will get you less money then any reputable body shop would, as they only care about TIME, not quality of the job done. Go to the best shop in town, and get an estimate, ANY insurance company would believe that your Vette deserves the best care possible

Just because everyone knows Maaco, I don't think that is a good enough reason to go to them for an estimate. I would try to go to the shop that you WOULD like to paint your vette and get THEIR estimate. If you don't, you won't get enough money to cover the damage.
But that is just me.

I would go to the most expensive/best Chevy dealer for the estimate. GM demands that they do the job ¨right¨. Nobody can argue with a GM estimate to repair a GM product. Then have the shop that you trust do the work.

My wife backed over my new ST-1100 Honda with the Tahoe last week so I got the Honda estimate and then had the work done by the guy that does the composite work for the team. There was only about $150 difference.

BTW not her fault, the bike was parked too close to the truck, ZER0 visibility out of the back of that elephant.

My door locks used to cycle like that. My fob latching mechanism was broken so the battery was getting intermittent contact. I put a new battery in and superglued the case shut. Now it works great. I just used a spot of glue and I'll be able to crack it open again later or buy a new fob when the battery runs out.

This may be it. Or very close to the problem. I drove arround alittle today, its intermitten but evident when i hit a bump. I did act up when i opened that little compartment in the door and kind of bumped that area alittle. I also have to really slam the door to engage the passive door locks when i walk away. Otherwise, the lights will still be on and doors unlocked.

I'm gonna take the door panel off monday after work to see if something is loose, hitting something or whats the deal in there.
