I took my Vette to a local shop to get it diagnosed. Well, I had an intake leak and 3 injectors were staying open after shut off. They quoted me $421.00 to get the intake fixed and when they found the problem with the injectors they'd let me know. Day one, no call. Day two, I called and they said they had ordered some parts for it and were waiting. I asked them what parts? The EGR solenoid? They said yeah.{they already knew it was bad!! I told them} Day three, I called at 1:00PM and the guy working on it told me he had run into a problem. He said the bypass hose going into the TB was cracked and needed replacing and that he already had the tube runners on and was at a stopping point until I decided what to do about the hose.{tried selling me the "you have to take the plenum off to get to it, it's an $8.00 part and it would be until Mon. before one came in"BS} I called him back and said go ahead and put it back together. I'll replace the hose. His reply was: I only have an hour to get this back together and it's not long enough because I have alot of stuff to put back on! Oh yeah, the injector problem. They replaced one w/out asking me about it. The price for the part? $151.00. I asked them where the parts came from? GM? He said yeah. No one else can get them until late next week. I called everywhere, even the dealer and it was a next day part for no more than $70.00. I also asked them if anyone has ordered one in the past few days. Of course,NO! Now I have to wait until Mon to get it. I am thinking they really messed something up and are stalling for time! Plus the guy told me that my computer was a GM rebuilt one! Why would he even look at the comp??? I was told it was good when they originally diagnosed my problems! Beware to all who live in Anniston/Oxford Alabama! I'll tell you who they are if you PM me.They now want $743.00 for what has been done! I do have a good plan though!!!! HAHA!

Sounds like BS to me. I picked up a set of 8 Accel injectors from Summit for around $250. If they replaced it without your permission then its on them. Ask for ALL the old parts they took off (gaskets, hoses, clamps, ect.) Compare the invoice to the parts, if its not in the pile then they are trying to sucker you.

I'm with you junkie and if we do not know how to do it, this web site is our own best friend.
By the way, yes there is something fishy going on.....

I wish I could do all my own work, but my tools, time and experiance is very limited. I thought they might have broken a bolt off somewhere, but I am still wondering why they knew my ECM was a replacement???

I do all my own work also. Can't trust the Bubbas around here ... most think a can of Slick-50 will fix anything. :hb Mine is a reman ECM also. Its got a label on it saying when it was rebuilt.

Amen to that!!!

For those of us who do not have the know how to do our own work-this is all of our fears! I think when a mechanic see's a Vette come his way they start adding up the $.

If your haveing a EGR problem it could be a faulty ECM if everything else checks out ok.

I really don't mind that my ECM has been replaced in the past, but I do mind them going into the dash and pulling it out just to take a look at it for no apparent reason. I just can't remember anyone ever having to do this when changing the intake. That was my red flag on these guys. I am going by there today to see if I can see anything going on {they're supposed to be closed today. First thing Mon I am going and taking my dad and have him look at it.

It's tough owning a vette if you don't do your own work. It can cost you big time. Educate yourself as much as possible...this site...a great place to start. Get some basic tools, a little at a time. Do your own research, you have more at your fingertips then ever before. Yu will save $$$$$ by investing the time.

Sounds like, " this guy drives a Vette, lets take him to the cleaners." I do my own work also, I have heard to many horror storys to trust anyone with my cars. I have new delphi injectors on order through my local parts house.$66 each.I was told these are what GM uses. They don't stock them in their warehouse for the vette so is a 4 day UPS shipping. The problem was I had to remove them to get the part number to order by.

In 1999 my 92's starter went bad and I called a shop and asked for a quote. "92 CORVETTE starter" they said $175. I waited a day and I walked in the shop this time I said Caprice Classic.....$99.99 ( Caprice did have a LT1)
The same happened with my power window motor. Did you know that the S10 small truck and C4 power window motor are the same???? Yes they are....$10 to rebuild!!:confused

People do that, for the same reason they also like to drive close to our rear bumpers.
I know a lady that paid $200 to have her air filter replaced. This is a true story. SAD BUT TRUE

1 of the truck drivers where i work,im a mechanic, said his neighbor was worken on a shark & tried beaten out the spindle.Naturally he mushroomed it.I told him how to remove the bearing carior from the t arm etc without pullen the arm & I would try pressen it out on the shop press. I also gave the driver a mid america cat i had on my tool box cause I know he's gona need parts!!! I gota give the guy credit tho because he tried, even tho his aproach was a little off.

Hey Guys

Got one for you.

How about 16 hours charged, to replace the following on an L81

Intake manifold gaskets
Exhaust gaskets
Water pump gasket
Timing cover gasket
Sump gasket
Rocker cover gaskets

Oh, and the engine......... WAS ALREADY ON AN ENGINE STAND! :hb

Needless to say, an alternative price was negotiated! :bash
