I got new speakers for Christmas and I can't get them to fit in my car. The 4x6's fit perfectly in the dash but the 6x9's have magnets that are a lot bigger than the stock speakers (yeah, I'm pretty sure my old speakers were the 22 year old stock ones). They're hitting this piece of metal that goes to that roller thing that pulls out over the cargo area. So my questions are, what is that roller thing called?, how do I remove it?, and should I just throw it out or try to modify it so that I can keep it and still use the new speakers?

roller thing? that wouldn't be the sun shade for the rear compartment would it? DON'T THROW IT AWAY!!!!! just keep it in the garage or sell it here.

My problem is that the metal braces for the sun shade are sticking out into the speaker holes and if they were out of the way then there would be plenty of room for the speakers. I think I'm going to try to keep the sun shade and just cut the metal that is in my way.

speakers

i got 6x9 in my 73 stingray. I left the factory speakers in the dash, but the 6x9 i screwed into the carpet in the rear compartment. They look great and all u need r short screws and some 9inch brackets.

good luck

Does anyone know the dimensions of the rear 6 x 9 speakers? I have a set of Alpines but they are too large. I would like to get a set that will fit in the so it looks more factory.

We sell the original Delco factory speakers for $59/pair for the 78-82 Corvette rears.

Ken,
That's great so you can measure them for celeryman22.
