My dad just got him a 92 coupe, the guy he got it from said that the car had 110,000 miles on it. BUT the speedo reads 192,000 the guy said that he changed the speedo out with another used one and that was the reading on it. He said that the speedo saves the miles, it this true. So if my dad puts a new one in will it read 00000 miles?

I think the odometer can be re-programed to display the correct mileage on the car. You may have to take the car to a dealer to get it done.

THE ONLY COUPE !!!!

Did he say why he changed it for a higher mileage odometer ???
Did he also say it was rare because they only built 1 coupe in 1992 ? :eyerole
If your car doesn't have 192,000 mi. I will eat my shorts.:chuckle
Dealer might be able to tell you something,I think they are tamper-proof,and possibly not changeable ??
Can the correct miles be pulled from the ECM at dealer???
Anybody ever done this ?????;help

Dealer might be able to tell you something,(Not unless it had been serviced at a dealership every time in it's life, and then at best it's sketchy!!)I think they are tamper-proof,and possibly not changeable ??
No,there are places that can do it with the right electronic equipment!!

I've sent Speedo's to All-tonics to be repaired or replaced and they came back with the right miles on them, they also came with a tag that must be placed(Fed Law)in the Lt door jam stating that it has been repaired, replaced or altered and set to the original miles or 000000 at XXXXXX miles and date for future owners to see!! :upthumbs

What you are saying is that the C4s are diff. from other GM cars? I know on many the speed is in the ECM and only changes when you replace the ECM.

No, what I'm saying is the miles aren't stored in the ECM!! Yes the speed go's to the ecm to control other functions!!:upthumbs I don't know first hand, but I've been told that on the newer ones the miles are stored in the ECM!!;shrug;shrug;shrug:upthumbs

Once again, Listen to the Junk!!!

The newer ECM's (the 411's) store the mileage and can be retreived from the ECM with the proper software. This is also the way it is on my Silverado SS (different ECM though.) I know the C4's did not store the mileage, actually you are lucky if all the parameters for your car are correct in these ECM's (gear ratios, auto or manual tranny, ect.) many of the parameters on the ECM's that I've looked at are incorrect. Don't know the year the newer ECM's came around, but I'm guessing around 2002 or 2003.

The speedometer can be set at what ever you want.
If the speedometer was changed it should have been set to the correct mileage

No special equipment required in-fact I'm having a problem with my dash and I plan on removing it and repairing it myself.

While I'm at it I may roll the miles back it is easy to do.

I think you have a 19200 mile car the seller just came up with a story to make the sell

You can run a Carfax on the VIN. It may not give you a complete history of the mileage but it may shed some light on it since it will pick up the mileage at every registration renewal date.
