Hey everyone,

I can't get the speedometer cable re-attached to the speedometer cable.
I've done it 2 or 3 times before, but not this time.

The cable makes it just the the clip on the back and then won't go any further.

Is there a trick to this or should it just slip on and snap?

Thanks!!!

Try turning the speedo a little bit. Sounds like the square drive is not lining up and not letting the cable seat.

If your 82 has cruise control, like my 81, then try dis-connecting speed-o cable at the C. Controller and then screw on the cable housing at the Speed-O-meter gage, then you can rotate the speed-O cable from the engine side, until the square cable drive slides into the gage. I also relocated the cruise controller mounting on the wheel well splash guard slightly to give more space to get the cable / housing better aligned. Then re-connect Speed-O to the controller unit. If needed remove cruise control from the wheel well guard; drilled a few new mtg holes and few pop rivets and you are done, improving the cable alignment will extend the life of the speed-O cable. I found that pulling the driver side front wheel is more work, but makes life easier when mounting the cruise controller.
