I'm replacing the lower speedometer cable in a '77 with automatic and curise control. I'm wondering if it is advisible to lubicate the cable before it is installed. I have seen some recommendations that say it should be lubricated with liquid graphite (which, I think, dries to a powder) and others that say white lithium grease is good. Any opinions or suggestions? Thanks.

When I had my C2s, I lubricated with the graphite liquid that did turn into powder that worked it's way into the speedometer and caused all kinds of problems. Had to have the speedo rebuilt. Was told to use the grease sparingly and lightly and not near the speedometer mechanism. Did that and no trouble afterward. Of course, this was back in the 1960s and I am sure the gtraphite grease is better now. Just don't use graphite powder. I suggest that you use a grease that does not dry up over the life of its intended use.

Red Vette, I have heard that story from others. So, I think, I will use white lithium grease and apply a very light coating. Three red ones, wow!!!

Corvette Central sells a product called "Kable-Ease" that's made specifically to lubricate speedo and tach cables; I've used it for decades. :)

Well, now I'll have to check if the cable I ordered comew with the lubricaction already applied. That would be a good thing. Thanks.
