My 1979 L-82 came with cruise control but I dont want it.
So I started pulling the components, but I have a question.

I have read that there are 2 cables that go into my speedometer.
Can I just run the cable from the transmission and leave the other cruise control cable disconnected?

Or am I making stuff up?

Thanks in advance

On the 79 with cruise control....there is only 1 cable going into the speedo...

where there is (2 cables) is on the TRANSDUCER, which is the input from the transmission and the output to the speed-odometer.

What I would do is replace the cable with a NEW cable for the BASE CAR WITHOUT CRUISE CONTROL...

In other words run the NEW cable from the transmission right to the speed-odometer...ok!

Where does this cable go to?
Right now there are no cables attached to my speedometer.

I need paint and body work done if you wanna come out to my place.

Ill be there in the morning :L about the cable,if its like the 74 Im doing right now there should be another place for a cable on the backside of the speedo. The other end of the cable mounts to a bracket that mounts to your steering column cover on the bottom of your steering column. Its the same bracket that your vac override switch is on:w

I will have to check that out.
So if I pull the speedometer out... there should be a provision for another cable?

With cruise control, you have a two-piece speedo cable; a lower cable from the transmission to the cruise control transducer (mounted somewhere in the left inner fender area), and a second upper cable from the transducer through the firewall to the speedo head. Without cruise control, there is just one long cable from the transmission to the speedo head.

The transducer uses electrical connections and vacuum hoses to operate the diaphragm that's connected to the throttle lever on the carb to maintain a set speed. No need to remove it all and remove/replace the cables - you can just disconnect it. If you really want it "gone", then remove all the parts and use a non-cruise control one-piece speedo cable.
