Let me start with thanks for all the advise on my engine and transmission overhaul It sounds great!!! I can't wait to get it on the road.

Now on to the next in a long series of problems, I found a face plate for my speedo. Can anyone tell me how to take the needle off with our damaging it?? Also the trip odometer has not worked since I have owned it any thoughts on what it might be? I hope to see an obvious problem when I get the face off of it.

Does anyone know a source for a tach face, every guage in the dash was a mess.
Thanks

I just replaced my speedo needle by rocking it a little at the pivot point and pulling it off. I would only pull lightly due to many people ending up with a broken shaft. Other cures I have heard are using a small pair of needle nose to hold the shaft or heating the shaft up slightly with a soldering iron.
A common failure on the oddmeter is the gear on the back of the guage. Good Luck.

Where did you you get the cover plate for the guages from?

Thanks I will give it a try. does the zero point need to be marked?? or will it only fit in the correct direction?
Mid America was the source and I believe theri supply is limited.

I didn't mark mine and it read the same as before.

Can the trip gear be fixed while it's in the dash? Mine doesn't work either...

When I had my dash apart neither the trip odometer or the tach worked. Took both in for repair, cleaning, etc. Was told that the speedo with the broken trip odometer was in worse shape than the tach.

I doubt you could repair it in the car.

The Speedometer and Tach are not that hard to pull out of the dash. Not sure about being able to fix however.

Well it could have went better, I broke the needle and plastic retainer behind the odometer. I guess I will try the email link provided on a earlier post.

I agree with everyone else there is no way to work on the speedometer or tach with out removing from the dash..

On a lighter note I reinstalled the dash last night it looks good I just have a ton of stuff to install now and do you think they could have made the space any tighter???
John

Did you re-dye your dash? If so, how did you do it?

I bet it looks good!

How about some pictures later!

Sorry to hear about the speedometer needle.

I was after an ebay dash but got outbid in the last 2 minutes while I was patting myself on the back(lesson learned there). I emailed the seller and he was nice enough to offer me a primed dash for my bid price and shipping. So yes I cleaned, Primed, and dyed it the correct colors. Will do on the pictures this weekend the digital camera is out of town with the wife and kids.....;-)

Looks like the tach and speedo will be my holdups\....:Steer
