First check the upper and lower cables. take upper one loose and turn it while someone inside the cars tells you if speedometer is working, if works connect it back then you need to go remove the lower cable from transmission turn it and see if other end turns if neither cable broke may need to check gear in transmission / hope this helps i just fixed mine a few weeks ago, your case may be different this was for a 1980 model
