'81 Black
Hello,

As some maybe know I'm doing a 81 body off. Because i want a new interoir I've kept my eyes open the last years and of course the Callaway interiors are just the top! I've become more and more obsessed with this interior color combo!

As everybody knows this is the black "titanic" Speedster that is coming up for sale all the time. Thanks for the photo's Luigi!
Because my 81 will be deep black metallic and i don't want a black interior with that I more and more felt in love this the color this Speedster has.
So i went to a old fashioned Carpenter over here and we've got a color that comes in the neighborhood but just no it (more doeskin). The beige/yellow/pink is very hard to find! I know Callaway used Connolly Leather and Wilton Carpet. So i went to the Connolly webpage. (Connolly went bankrupt in the '90s so this is the closest i can get to them). And this is the color i found.

Connolly Autocalf Wentworth Magnolia

I know its almost impossible to selector and judge colors from the internet but i only know the Speedster from images and not in real life. So does somebody know which color the Speedster has or is it a costum color?
I think i don't have the money to wrap my 81 in Connolly leather but if i could get a sample from the piece that looks closest then i would be very happy.

Second problem is that a wool carpet would set me back around 2000 euro's because original nylon Corvette carpets are press molded and wool would be handwork because they have no press. Does anybody know if the Wilton wool carpets in Callaways are press molded or stitched?
Thanks! :)

Groeten Peter.

Peter,

You might check Carravagio in canada, they have done Callaway-esq interiors in a few ZR1s and C5s. Nice stuff too.

Peter, Collony leather is more less a name for a quality level than the firm you say got bankrupt.

Collony leather is coming from UK from 1 farm and the leather is only the best batch, the rest is sold to other leather farms to be used.

some customers from this farm in UK are Ferarri , Jaguar and Bentley.

I am in the leather and fabric business for upholstered sofa's and bedframes

So I checked this with one of my suppliers who provides us top of the line leather for purpose of upholstery for furniture.

the bad news is that this farm does not sell to private persons, you have to find some friends in the Jaguar factory to get some skins.

btw, for my C4 restoration I used the retail skins option, I asked for a sample and the quality is good. (no perforations)

I do not own a C3 so I cannot judge about that standard quality.

good luck on your search.

Thanks for the name Josh, I've found the Carravaggio website and they do some amaising stuff! I'll send them a mail later today.

@ Jeroen, very weird to talk to a fellow dutchmen on a american forum ;)
Thanks for the info, I learn everyday! Maybe it is the general mistake that Connolly is not the company but the quality (maybe the quality name is so well known that its more inportent and well known then the company that produces them (UK hides). I'm not so much interested in the best of the best quality simple because i can not afford it. An A grain product will be a big attack on my bankaccount so now i'm setteling with a very light stamping (slightly lower quality). The problem is color and grain are fixed, so now i'm focust on the color only and will later see if the grain is correct.
I already have a carpenter who can order about anything (including Connolly) but the samples we have viewed were just not close enough. So i'm doing some research on my own ;)

I also send a email to Al Knoch. (they have THE original c3 interiors and make them) I've asked if they could also press mold a wool carpet so i'm awaiting there answer. :)

It's very nice to have these options and problems during a resto. Comparing stuff doing alot of research and comming to some solutions is very cool when you know this is going to be your personal interior :)

Groeten Peter.
