Sport Seat Problem in a 98

One of the adjusters on my driver seat does not work. It's the one that adjusts the lower side bolsters around your legs. When I move the switch I can hear the actuator (or whatever it is) running but there is no movement.

Also, the seat shifts slightly on accelleration. Is this just something I can tighten upon removal of the seat.

All other seat position and lumbar adjusters work perfectly.

Has anyone else had this problem? And if so, is this something I have a shot at solving myself?

Thanks!

I think the side bolsters are only in the seat back sides. Don't think there are any in the seat bottom.

Both my seats "rock" one of these days I will dissassemble the seat adjusters and fix them right now I am having too much fun driving it. I have heard it is bushings that wear out or too much play on one of the shafts but I wont know until I take it apart :L

Eric, my Z06 does not have sport seats, but my '90 Vert does. I don't know if the C5 Sport Seats are like the C4's, but in the C4's the bolster supports close up around your sides, not your legs. Now, if the side bolster supports aren't moving on your sport seats, that sounds like a loose wire to me.

I've heard of this happening. I think Bossvette is right- sounds like the bushings may need replacing.

Thanks everyone!

There are three adjustments, one for each sport seat switch, two for the lumbars (upper and lower), and one that is under the seat on the lower side bolsters. The only reason I know what the third one does is because all three function properly on the passenger seat.

Guess I'll yank my seat out after the first layer of salt gets laid down in December to fix the rocking problem. Until then, I'm rockin!

While I have it out, guess I'll try to figure out why the third switch doesn't work.

Hi Guys!

My '98 Vert doesn't have the sport seats but now that you mention it my passenger seat is starting to rock too. I've noticed it during "rapid deceleration" ;) Guess I'll have to check it out.

Patrick - when did you get a '90 vert? Posted any pictures yet? I wanna see it. I'm jealous... I wish I could have kept my '94 Torch vert but I sold it after I bought my C5. :cry

Hehehe, actually it is kinda cool when you think that rapid accelleration is probably one of the root causes.:D

Your 98 coupe? Where have I been...............
Not sure but this is the first tech post I've made about it. I've had it about two months and already took it back to the womb (Bowling Green).

Oops, I sat in the passenger seat a few hours today. I knew that the third switch moved something that closed in around me but I was wrong about which bolsters. It's the lower side bolsters on the seat back.

However, still that function is inopperable on my driver seat:(. I'm hoping something has just become diconnected. I really don't want to have to butcher my seat but I really like that functionality on the passenger side.

Hi Eric -

Both of my C5's have the rocking seat problem -

My Z06 did this from the day it was new - and there is not to my knowledge a viable fix -

Others have had GM replace the seat tracks under warranty, only to find the new tracks have the same problem.

Since I made mention of this problem while my Z was under warranty, I could still have a claim if it is determined that there is a postive fix....Same with my "non-returning" clutch pedal problem...

EDIT - I found this link.... http://robbs.js-x.com/ken/vette1/

best regards -
