I recently purchased an LT4. Mine has an LT4 badge on the lower right hand side of the rear bumper. I thought all LT4's would have this, but I have noticed it on only one other car. If it is an aftermarket piece it's unusual that the other car I saw had the badge in exactly the same place. Was this an option? Is there any other way to identify an LT4 besides looking at the vin # or the engine?

No Option . . .

Aftermarket . . . but they l@@k Sweet !

The 6 speed, side vents & solid colored front bumpers on a 96 Vette are dead give aways for a Grand Sport/LT4 Power House under the Hood.

BTW - Welcome to :CAC

Later . . . . . .

I asked basically the same question a while back. The LT4 badge is an aftermarket item. All Grand Sport cars are LT4 cars but other wise, you have to know it has a manual transmission or look at the VIN. I am trying to decide whether to put a LT4 badge on my car.

The "8th" check digit of the vin will be a #5 and LT4's could only be had with a 6 speed.

At a quick glance, it's very, very difficult to spot an LT4 unless it is a GS or the owner has added LT4 markings somewhere.

In 96, all LT4 cars got the 6-speed and "ALL" LT1 cars got the automatic. The 96 looks just like a 95 except for the painted area between the front turn signals and side marker lights - in 96 they are the same color as the body - 95 and earlier, this area is black. This works until you are looking at a black car.

This kind of stuff make Corvette spotting a real challenge. It can also make it fun.

Look for the 6 speed and a quick look at the tach, which goes to 8000 rpm on the LT4 is a dead give-away.

I had forgotten about the 8000 tach. The only other C4 to get the 8000 RPM tack is the ZR1 and those should be ovbious.

I think the reason that the emblem was in the same spot, it that they are putting them in the same place as the zr1 badges. I need one....

Thanks for the LT4 distinctions.

I bought my CE LT4 a couple of months ago. It had LT4 decals on each side of the hood on the raised area. I asked the previous owner if he had put them on the hood and he said that they were stock. After getting the car home and doing some checking I removed them. The only people who know that I have an LT4 are people who know.:D

LT4 Badge

It's not oem, I suspect the location is because that's where the ZR1 badge was put. Yes/no?

Is the ZR1 badge oem? I always thought so.

I'm not in favor of that badge. I don't want someone to know what i have under the hood... and extra 60 hp :)

Thats also the reason i bought an LT4, you can not distinguise between standard LT1 auto's and our LT4s from the outside. Its whats under the hood that counts, not a little badge on the back.

Good point... I can’t help but wonder if I’ve surprised opponents thinking they were up against an LT1. :confused

I don’t think too many non Corvette enthusiasts are aware of what an LT4 is and how much grunt they have right out of the box. I love my 8 year old sleeper. I must admit, I’ve pretty much stopped street racing, I enjoy just cruising around in it now. :cool

LT4 Badge

With the LT4 badging, people now know what my license plate means:

I have a 96 impala and i wouldnt dream of an LT4 badge. Not considering the stock LT1 is rated at a meager 260 hp! The stock impalas dont stand a chance!
