Spray Detailers

Anyone want to comment on spray detailers?

Are they ok to use often? Which one is the best? Do they add swirl marks etc.?

One thing I do know is that the spray detailers should not be used as a substitute for regular cleaning, polishing and waxing, the latter with a good carnuba-based wax - I'm not a big fan of the silcone stuff.

They do have their place though, and they certainly come in handy for quick touch-ups come showtime.

Hmmmmm, great post! I don't know that I can add much to that! Hmmmmm, there has to be something.

Absolutely!...They are not a substitute for a good wash.

If used correctly, they shouldn't cause swirls. Silicone products attract dust which could cause swirls if not handled properly.

The good products provide another shot of gloss to the car, remove static electricity, make the car's surface "super slick" and remove water spots from the last wash (which may have been missed).

Detail Sprays

I LOVE'UM!!!!

I've used a number of them, Eagle One, Meguires, Mothers, etc.
I haven't noticed any major differences between the brands, other than, I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT THEM.

These details sprays a car "Buffs" (Pun intended) best friend.

It's true, you shouldn't use these in place of cleaning and waxing, but the reality is, you won't be waxing as often.

Example: I live in Illinois, My Vette's a weekend warrior. It sits in the garage covered all week. My last full waxing was in April.

Saturday morning, I pulled the cover off, drove 75 miles to a car show. Once I got there, I pulled the detail spray out, wiped/ buffed the car down, and drove home a few hours later with a 2nd place Trophy.

The sprays are between 5-6 dollars. It's a very small investment to try out, go for it, buy a bottle - You won't be sorry.

I'm going to throw Zymol's new "Detail" into the mix. I tried it this weekend and was quite impressed with it. It's of the quality of the other quick detailers. Probably has the Zymol price attached to it, that withstanding.

Going against the grain here....I don't wash my car. :eek Gasp. :eek It leaves the garage twice per month on average, and sees no more than 1,500 miles per year.

After driving the car, it is quick detailed - not washed. I'd just like to be clear that I am quick detailing light dust from the belt line up, and ordinary road grime from the belt line down. This method of care is not one that I would suggest for a daily driver, but it certainly works for myself and several members of the car club that I belong to.

In my opinion washing a car that is used in this manner is: time consuming, leaves me chasing those elusive water drips, and introduces water to a car that I'd rather keep dry.

That said, I have experimented with many of the quick detail sprays that are on the market. Some contain carnauba and some do not. For a carnauba based spray, I like Eimman Fabrik Clear Pearl and Gliptone Gloss Enhancer. The Zymol Detail that Detail Dude mentioned is also very good as well. For a non-carnauba based spray I like Griot's Speed Shine as well as Eagle One Wet Wipe and Shine. The only QD sprays that I have come across that I really did not care for were the Meguiar's line up - both Final Inspection and the consumer product in the maroon bottle. I know these products have a following, but they do nothing for me.

QD sprays are a great tool for car care.

Buffalo Milke anyone?

Anyone ever tried Buffalo Milke Instant Spray Wax on their Vette? It's supposed to be a cleaner, wax, and detailer, all in one. I've used it in the past and it's very easy to use and leaves no white residue on any of the trim, etc.

Try Dri-Wash"n"Guard. This product really works. I wash the car and then apply it. Cleans,seals,and wax in one application. A bit pricey at 42.00 a quart. But you don't use all that much in the applicator bottle that comes with it. Easy on, easy off.

Well, as much as I have "bad mouthed" Zaino products in other posts, I think their Z6 detailer spray is one of the (if not the) best on the market. And it can be sucessfully used over most any type of polish, (not just Zaino polish).

The 3M detailer would be my 2nd choice. I have used the Meguiar's and found it "wanting" in the "feel" of the finish after use, but it does enhance the look of the polish, (I like that slippery feel on a polished finish, not just shiny).

The detailers don't cause the swirls, the foreign matter on the car's paint that they're attempting to wipe off does. If you use them, be sure to have a 100% made in USA cotton towel with a deep nap to minimize their being forced against the paint.

I don't use Zaino any longer as I like Pinnacle Souveran better, BUT I still use and like Z9 detailer the best!

QD sprays are a great tool for car care.

I haven't washed mine in three years and I put on 15,000 miles. It looks better now than the day I bought it.
I do not drive on gravel roads. After every cruise I dust off with a california duster then use a detailer, 3M or Meguiers. I wax it once a month and sometimes after a run I use Meguier Quick Wax. Quick wax gives it a little more protection and shine than the detailer. Sometimes when I wax it I use a cleaner/ wax . No swirl marks and great shine.
